Mounties Upended in Home Opener

CRESSON -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball Team hosted Grove City on Tuesday night in the season opener. They took a loss 84-51.

Into the Box Score
- After shooting 46.2% in the first quarter, the Mounties finished shooting 34.7% for the game.
- Lea Sammarco (Patton, PA, Bishop Carroll) paced Mount Aloysius with 22 points, on 7-9 shooting. She made a game-high six threes.
- The Mounties shot well from behind the arc as they made 11 of their 22 three point field goal attempts.
- Grove City shot a blistering 53.1% for the game, as they were 34-64 from the floor.

Highlights
- Sammarco scored eight points in just under a minute of game time, early in the second quarter. She was able to make two free throws, then add two threes on consecutive possessions.
- Both teams combined for seven three pointers in the first quarter. Mount Aloysius made four, two from Sammarco and two from Emma Kitko (Houtzdale, PA, Moshannon Valley).
- Mount Aloysius started two freshmen in the first game of the season for the first time since 2016-17. Ryanna Hockenos (Ashville, PA, Penn Cambria) and Zoé Harding (Garrett, PA, Berlin-Brothersvalley) started their first career games. In 2016-17, it was Sammarco and Jessa Wright that started against McDaniel.

Schedule
- Grove City will play in the Allegheny Tournament, this Friday and Saturday, before playing AMCC foes Pitt-Greensburg and Franciscan. All before Thanksgiving.
- Mount Aloysius will play this weekend at the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley. The first game will be against the hosts.
- Tuesday's game was the only non-conference home game for the Mounties. Their next home game will be the beginning of AMCC play, against Franciscan.
