Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mount Aloysius Baseball team added two more wins to the early part of their season Sunday, sweeping Penn College in a doubleheader by scores of 11-2 and 10-3.
Junior
Michael McCourt (Mullica Hill, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) took the mound for the Mounties in game one, and followed up his strong performance last week with another quality start. McCourt pitched 6 innings for the Mounties, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, and a walk while striking out 4. He started the game out perfectly, retiring the first 11 batters he faced. McCourt kept the Wildcats off the board for 5 innings, however they were able to push 2 runs across late in the 6th. McCourt was credited with his first win of the season. The Mounties also got a strong performance out of the bullpen, as senior
Scott Schultz came in to close out the contest with a perfect 7th.Â
The Mountie's offense did not start as quickly as it has in its previous contests, but were able to go ahead early. Catcher
Douglas Smith (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) gave his battery mate the lead int he second, hitting a two out RBI double to the right center gap. After McCourt's shutdown inning, the Mounties continued to build momentum, scoring 3 more in the 3rd.

Patrick Mahon (Pittsburgh, PA/Allegheny CC) finished off the rally wth a run scoring double to left.
Mount Aloysius put up another 3 run frame in the 5th, using 3 hits and a walk to push the lead to 7. The Mounties were able to respond in the 6th after Penn College cut the lead to 5.

Joe Hudak (Central City/Shanksville-Stonycreek) pushed a run across with a walk and
Daniel Singer (St. Mary's Pa/Elk County Catholic) finished the scoring with a 2 RBI single.Â
Smith finished the game 3-3 while Mahon and
Matthew Brown (Hustontown, PA/Forbes Road) also recorded multi-hit games.Â
The Mounties continued to roll offensively in the second game of the twin bill. They put up a three spot in the first inning to get ahead early. The Mounties used 2 hits 2 walks and 4 stolen bases to score the runs. Brown had the big hit to finish the rally, driving a 2 out single through the right side to score Belka and
Matthew McCourt.
Cole Funk (Fort Louden, PA/Fannett Metal) had a tough first start of the year, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in just an inning and two thirds. The Mountie bullpen picked up their starter, as they allowed only 1 run over the final 5 and 1/3.
Alex Arone (Homer City, PA/Homer Center) got out of the 2nd inning jam, but gave up a run in the 3rd to cancel out one from the Mounties in the third. Arone pitched a 1-2-3 4th to close out his day.
The Mounties tallied another three run inning in the 4th. After
Alan Mackey (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, Hudak singled through the right side and Singer was also hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA/Valley) drove a single into left to score the first run of the 4th. Following the Iellimo single, a hustle play from two different Mounties put two more on the board. McCourt beat out a potential double play ball and Singer sprinted around from second on the play to score a second run.
Luke Stultz (New Paris, PA/Chestnut Ridge) entered the game for the Mounties in the 5th, and put in a dominant effort to close out the game. After allowing two hits in the 5th, Stultz retired the final 8 Wildcats. His performance earned him a 3 inning save.
Mount Aloysius tacked on 3 runs late to push the lead even further. Belka drove a double to deep left field to score 2 in the 6th and pinch hitter
Aaron Shinn (Woodbridge, VA/CD Hylton) singled through the left side of the infield to drive in the final run. McCourt and
Sam Keibler (Kittaning, PA/Kittaning) had two hits a piece in the contest and Belka drove in 3 runs. Arone was credited with the win.
The Mounties (5-1) will be right back on the field tomorrow morning, as they take on Wells College at 10:00 AM.
