RADNOR, PA -- On the opening night of the 2019 season, Senior
Emma Pevarnik (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) reached a career milestone in her second game of the season.
With her first assist of the second game, Pevarnik tallied her 1,000th career assist. She became the sixth Mountie to accomplish this feat. Pevarnik turned in 28 assists in a Game 1 win over Ursinus, to put herself at 999.
In the first game of Cavalier Clash, hosted by Cabrini University, the Mounties held off the Bears to win three sets to one. Mount Aloysius won the first set, 25-13. Ursinus came back and took the second set, 25-17. Following the second set, the Mounties took control of the game, winning sets 3 and 4 consecutively, by scores of 25-22 and 25-15. Junior
Machala Gibbons (Cairnbrook, PA, Bishop McCort) led the Mounties in Game 1 with 13 kills, while
Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria) had 8, and
Macy King (New Bethlehem, PA, Redbank Valley) had 6.
The second game of the day started out as a heavy weight matchup. Following Pevarnik's milestone, the Mounties went on the win the first set 31-29. In each of the final three sets, Mount Aloysius was unable to score more than 16 points. Gibbons and Parrish again led the Mounties in kills with, 15 and 10, respectively. Pevarnik tallied 22 assists, putting her career total at 1,021.
The Cavalier Clash continues tomorrow morning, as the Mounties take on Swarthmore College, at 11 AM. They return to action next week against Lycoming on Wednesday night, in Williamsport.
