Mounties Pick Up Two AMCC Wins

EBENSBURG -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Tennis team improved their AMCC record to 3-1 over the weekend, with wins against Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Greensburg.

In Saturday's win against Penn State Altoona, the Mounties overcame losses at #1 and #2 Doubles. With help from forfeits at #3 Doubles and #6 Singles, Mount Aloysius was able to win three of their five remaining Singles matches, to secure the victory. Sophomores Chloe Love (Duncansville, PA, Hollidaysburg) and Payton Whysong (Imler, PA, Chestnut Ridge) picked up easy victories, with Whysong winning in shutout fashion.

The clinching point came from the #5 Singles position and Junior Ayusma Bhattarai (Pittsburgh, PA, Baldwin). Bhattarai was able to win two sets, both by the score of 7-6. She won both tiebreaker points 7-5, in each set.

Following up Saturday's intense matchup, the Mounties were able to relax a bit more on Sunday, as they picked up a 9-0 victory.

Love and Whysong got back on track at #1 Doubles, and both went on to win their Singles matches. Whysong again shutout her opponent at #2 Singles. Emily Abramowich (Somerset, PA, Somerset) and Maggie Willason (Johnstown, PA, Richland) got their first points of the weekend at # 2 Doubles and their respective Singles spots. Bhattarai joined her partner, Krishna Rana (Toledo, OH), who was playing her first official action of the weekend, to win at #3 Doubles. Both Bhattarai and Rana won their Singles matches, as well.

The Mounties will be back in action this coming weekend, with a busy schedule. Following a non-conference matchup, at Waynesburg on Friday, they will host Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Bradford. Both home matchups will be played at Ebensburg Tennis Center.
