Mounties Get Back on Track at Hood

FREDERICK, MD -- The Mount Aloysius Volleyball team was able to get back in the win column on Tuesday night at Hood College. The Mounties win three straight sets to put away the Blazers.

Machala Gibbons (Cairnbrook, PA, Bishop McCort) led the way in hitting for the Mounties, with 16 kills on the night. Senior Emma Pevarnik (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) was able to pick up 31 assists offensively, as well. Abigail Fletcher (Salem, VA, Glenvar) led the defense with 20 digs, while Gibbons registered 14 digs to put together another double-double on the season.

The Mounties were able to get off to a fast start in the first set, by getting out to a 5-2 lead. They were also able to put together a five point run later in the set, to put themselves up 17-10. The final margin stayed at seven, as Mount Aloysius took set one, 25-18

In set number two, the match went back and forth. The Mounties slowly pulled away late in the set, including scoring four of the last five points, to go ahead two sets to zero.

The third set was the closest of the night. Hood held an 11-10 lead before Mount Aloysius put together a six point run. Hood would come back to tie the set at 22, before Gibbons and Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria) would register kills on two of the last three points to give the Mounties the 3-0 win.

Seven of the ten Mounties that played registered at least one kill on the night. Four different Mounties also picked up one or more service aces, while Fletcher and Gibbons each had three.

The Mounties will return to action on Friday evening, when they travel to play Shenandoah University, in Winchester. They will continue the travel weekend as they go on to Washington & Lee University, Saturday, to take on the Generals and William Peace University.
