CRESSON -- The Mount Aloysius Volleyball team completed a three-game sweep of Waynesburg on Friday night to improve to 3-2 on the season.
SeniorÂ
Emma Pevarnik (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) and JuniorÂ
Machala Gibbons (Cairnbrook, PA, Bishop McCort) each set season highs, in assists and kills respectively. Pevarnik picked up 34 assists on the night, while Gibbons ended the night with 16 kills.
The Yellow Jackets stuck with the Mounties in sets one and two, losing by identical 25-22 scores. The close games were, in part, attributed to Waynesburg hitting at much higher percentages. In set one, they hit .075 and set two, they hit .217. In the third, and final set, they hit for -.029, and led to the lopsided score.
The Mounties held off the Jackets in the first two sets, with strong consistent play. They had double digit kills in every set of the game, including 15 kills in set two. In addition to the play of Gibbons and Pevarnik, there were multiple others who made important contributions. Junior LiberoÂ
Kylee Clawson (Altoona, PA, Altoona) had 15 digs on the night. Clawson and Pevarnik joined Junior
Macy King (New Bethlehem, PA, Redbank Valley), as all three had multiple service aces.
With the win, Mount Aloysius pushed their winning streak against Waynesburg to five, dating back to the 2015 campaign.
This game starts a three game home stretch, where all three opponents are members of the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Mounties return to action on Tuesday, when they host Chatham, at 7:00 PM.
