Mounties Comeback Attempt Falls Short

Cresson -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team hosted AMCC-foe Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon. After falling behind early, they were able to come back and take the lead, but could not sustain the advantage, as they fell 65-61.

Leaders
- Freshman Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills) poured in a career-high 25 points to lead Mount Aloysius. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- Lea Sammarco (Patton, PA, Bishop Carroll) scored 14 points for the Mounties, including a 4-6 performance from deep. Sammarco also grabbed seven rebounds.
- Kourtney Beamesderfer and Alanna Dibble led PSB with 12 points each. Dibble also grabbed a game-high, nine rebounds.

How it Happened
- Behrend jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, as the Mounties struggled from the field. Mount Aloysius committed six of their 18 turnovers in the first period. They also made one, lone field goal, on basket and foul, from Kourtney Walls (Salix, PA, Forest Hills).
- The second quarter played pretty even early, as the Lions still held a 10-point advantage (30-20) with four and a half minutes remaining in the quarter.
- Mount Aloysius put together a run over the final four minutes of the period, cutting the lead to one, 31-30, capped by an Emma Kitko (Houtzdale, PA, Moshannon Valley) three pointer.
- Ashley Seamon scored the final four points of the half for the Lions, putting them up 35-30 at the break.
- The Mounties came out of halftime on a 15-6 run to open the third quarter. The run included three, three point field goals, one from Stigers and two from Sammarco. The run putt the Mounties up by four.
- The lead would change hands twice over the next five minutes, finishing up with a one-point advantage for the Mounties, 51-50.
- Behrend would begin the fourth quarter by scoring the first five points, giving themselves a four-point lead. However, Mount Aloysius was able to come back and tie the game again at 57, on a Rachel Robinson (Leola, PA, Conestoga Valley) three point field goal.
- Over the final three and a half minutes, Behrend would outscore the Mounties 8-4, going 6-8 from the line, to seal the game.

Into the Box Score
- Both teams shot roughly 40% from the field, as the Lions shot 41% and the Mounties shot 39%.
- The Lions got an advantage by outrebounding Mount Aloysius by ten. The rebounding edge turned into 11 second-chance points for Behrend.
- Mount Aloysius regained the advantage by making five more three pointers than the Lions. The Mounties shot an impressive 50% from distance, including a 4-6 performance from Sammarco and 4-7 from Stigers.
