Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mounties Earn Senior Day Victory, Stover Reaches 1,000 Point Plateau

Cresson -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team hosted Alfred State on Saturday afternoon, in the Athletic, Convocation and Wellness Center. They also honored their four seniors, Imrane Amadou (Cotonou, Benin), Nate Christian (Accokeek,MD, Surratsville), Trent McErlane (Greenville, PA, Greenville), and Julian Stover (Washington, DC, Richard Montgomery). The Mounties held on late, as they finished the contest with a 75-71 advantage.

1,000 Point Club
It was an even more memorable day for Julian Stover. Stover came into the contest needing only one point to reach 1,000 points scored for his collegiate career. Stover struggled on the day, going 2-11 from the field. However, along with his 1,000th point, he made clutch free throws in the final minute to help the Mounties seal the victory. Stover is the 13th Mountie Men's Basketball player to surpass the 1,000 point mark, the first since 2016, when Dillon Bender passed the mark. Stover currently has 1,000 points scored at Mount Aloysius, as well. He looks to move up the school's career list, which is listed below, as the season continues.

Leaders
- Christian led the Mounties with 22 points on the day, including a 4-7 performance from three point range. He also grabbed a team-high, six rebounds.
- McErlane produced a game-high, four assists, to go along with his four, three-point field goals. He had 13 points on the day.
- Before fouling out, Amadou also grabbed six boards, to tie for the team-high.
- Ryan Gentile led the Pioneers with 26 points, on 8-13 shooting, including five treys. Brandon Gosley grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for Alfred State.

How It Happened
- The Pioneers jumped out to an early 10-4 lead, behind a perfect 3-3 start from Gentile, with two of his shots being three-point attempts. Gentile had eight of their first ten.
- More Alfred State players would get involved in the first ten minutes, as the Pioneers stretched their lead to 21-9, which was their biggest of the half.
- With 7:42 to go in the first half, Josh Reding scored for the Pioneers, making the score 28-20. The Mounties would then come roaring back, as they finished the half on a 19-5 run, securing a six-point lead heading into the break. The 19-5 run was fueled by eight points from Christian and five points from Azim Hutson (Orlando, FL, Ocoee).
- Mount Aloysius didn't stop when they emerged from the locker room, as they scored the first nine points of the second half.
- The Mountie lead would remain double-digits for most of the half, getting as big as 18 points (66-48), with 8:30 remaining.
- Over the following eight minutes, the Pioneers outscored the Mounties, 21-6, cutting the lead to 72-69 with just under 30 seconds remaining.
- During the final 30 seconds, Stover was able to go 2-2 from the line and McErlane made one of his two attempts, to ice the victory.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius only shot 38.9% from the field for the game, but they went 11-27 (40.7%) from three-point range. It was only the second time this season that the Mounties made 10+ three point field goals. They made 15 3PTs against Hilbert on January 11.
- The win was also the first victory of the season for the Mounties, when shooting less than 40% from the field.
- Alfred State turned the ball over 19 times on the day, leading to 21 Mountie points. In contrast, Mount Aloysius only committed seven miscues.
- The Mounties also shot an impressive 75.9% from the free-throw line. Their 22 made free throws was the highest since November 10, when they made 24 in a victory against Marywood.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius improved to 10-9 on the year, including a 7-7 AMCC record. They are currently occupying the sixth and final tournament spot.
- They will travel to Franciscan on Wednesday night, to take on the Barons. The Barons are currently 6-8 in the AMCC, after adding a buzzer-beating victory (54-52) over Penn State Behrend on Saturday.
- Franciscan beat Mount Aloysius in the first conference contest of the season, back on December 4, 72-63.
