Mounties Lose to Hilbert in Final Seconds

Hamburg, N.Y. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team traveled to Hilbert on Saturday afternoon, to take on the Hawks. Two Hilbert free throws with six seconds remaining gave the Hawks a 70-68 victory. The Mounties missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer.

Leaders
- Nate Christian (Accokeek,MD, Surratsville) led the Mounties with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. He went 8-15 from the field, including 2-4 from three-point range. Both his point and rebound totals were game-highs.
- Imil Britt (Johnstown, PA, Greater Johnstown) dished out a team-high, six assists.
- Hunter Martineau led the Hawks, producing a triple-double, with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

How It Happened
- Hilbert started the game on a roll, pushing the lead to double-digits, less than six minutes in. They last led by double-digits with just over 11 minutes to play in the half (20-10).
- Over the final ten minutes of the half, the Mounties would respond. They outscored the Hawks, 23-7, over that time frame, including the final 13 points of the half.
- During the 13-0 run, Mount Aloysius went 6-6 over the course of seven possessions. Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain, Phelps School) and Julian Stover (Washington, DC, Richard Montgomery) each contributed four points, while Britt added a layup. The stretch was capped by a Christian three-point field goal.
- Christian's three-pointer put the Mounties ahead 33-27, as they would head into the locker room.
- The Hawks came out of the break on fire, as they outscored the Mounties in the first three and a half minutes, 14-4, giving them a 41-37 lead. Nine of the 14 points were scored by Masia Phillips.
- Both teams would trade the lead back and forth before a 7-0 Mountie run put them ahead by six. Hilbert countered with a 9-0 stretch of their own, to go back up by three.
- Hilbert built their lead to six down the stretch, the last time being 65-59, with about four minutes to go.
- Palacio scored with just under ten seconds remaining, to cap a 9-3 Mountie run, tying the game at 68. On the ensuing inbounds, Hilbert's Khyreese Fisher was fouled, sending him to the free throw line. Fisher was able to make both free throws, putting the Hawks back up two.
- A Britt three-point attempt was off the mark at the buzzer, giving the victory to Hilbert.

Into the Box Score
