Mounties Beat Up by Hawks

Hamburg, N.Y. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team traveled to Hilbert on Saturday afternoon. They were beat by the Hawks, 75-54.

Leaders
- Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills) led the Mounties with 18 points on 6-13 shooting. She also went 4-7 from three.
- Lea Sammarco (Patton, PA, Bishop Carroll) led the team in rebounding, as she grabbed seven boards.
- Rachel Robinson (Leola, PA, Conestoga Valley) contributed 14 points and a game-high, five assists.
- Emily Gawlak led the Hawks in scoring with 19 points. Macy Kisner contributed a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

How It Happened
- The Mounties fell behind early, going down 19-11 after the first period. Hilbert led by as much as 11 (17-6) in the quarter.
- In the second quarter, both teams struggled from the field. Hilbert won the quarter 11-9, while each team only made two field goals. They went a combined 4-28 in the period. The advantage came for the Hawks at the line, as they went 7-8.
- Opening the second half, Mount Aloysius was able to cut the lead to four in the first few minutes. The best stretch was a 9-2 run which included two, Stigers' three pointers, and one from Sammarco, making the score 37-33.
- Following an Ashley Schroeder three pointer, the Mounties scored another five straight, including another Stigers' three. Ryanna Hockenos (Ashville, PA, Penn Cambria) scored to cut the Hawk lead to two with 3:17 remaining in the quarter.
- Hilbert ended the quarter on a 12-4 run, sending the game into the fourth, with the Hawks up 52-42.
- In the final period, the Hawks outscored the Mounties 23-12, shooting 53% from the field in the process.

Into the Box Score
- Hilbert won the rebounding battle, gathering 45 rebounds, including 19 offensive, compared to 31 Mountie boards. Hilbert turned the offensive rebounds into 21 points off second-chances.
- The Hawks also won the turnover battle, as they made 10 mistakes. Mount Aloysius committed 21 miscues.
- Mount Aloysius shared the ball efficiently, assisting on 12 of their 14 made field goals.

Up Next
- The Mounties will return to the ACWC on Wednesday night to take on Pitt-Greensburg.
