Mounties Sweep Mustangs

Stevenson, Md. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team opened up the road portion of their 2020 schedule, on Saturday, when they traveled to Stevenson to take on the Mustangs. Pitching was the difference for the Mounties, as they only used two pitchers in total, for the double header, and gave up just three runs. They were able to sweep the Mustangs, on their home turf.

Game 1
- After a scoreless top of the first, the Mustangs first three batters all singled, loading the bases. A sacrifice fly brought home the first run for Stevenson, but they were unable to push anymore across in the frame, leaving two runners stranded.
- Mount Aloysius answered in the top of the second inning, scoring all three of their runs. The first came when Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) laid down a safety squeeze, driving home Troy Emert (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood) from third. Tyler Suder (Boswell, PA, North Star) would score on an ensuing wild pitch, making it 2-1, Mounties.
- The Mounties would add a third run in the second inning, after consecutive base hits by Cody Smith (Loysville, PA, West Perry) and Douglas Smith (Massapequa, NY, Massapequa ), C. Smith scored when Nicholas Belka (Freehold, NJ, Freehold ) reached on an error by the Mustang first basemen.
- Over the next four times that Stevenson was at bat, they only managed two base runners against Mountie starter, Michael McCourt (Mullica Hill, NJ, St. Augustine Prep). Their lone hit during the period came in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the following batter lined into a double play, ending the inning.
- In the final three half-innings, both teams put runners in scoring position, but were unable to push across a run, giving Mount Aloysius the victory, 3-1.

Game 2
- The Mounties jumped on Stevenson to start game two. They scored four runs on four hits and an error, in the first inning. With two outs, the Mounties pulled off a double steal, with Doug Smith making his way to second, allowing Cody Smith to score, gaining a 1-0 lead. After a walk and infield single loaded the bases, Patrick Mahon (Pittsburgh, PA, Allegheny Community College) registered an RBI with a walk, making it 2-0.
- With the bases still full, freshman Troy Emert (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood) doubled down the right field line, scoring Brayden Lackey (New Cumberland, PA, Cedar Cliff) and Ryan Leonard (James Creek, PA, Tussey Mountain). Mount Aloysius held a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the inning.
- Stevenson loaded the bases on two hits and a walk, against Dylan Coyle (Canonsburg, PA, Canon-McMillan), in the bottom of the first, but could not push across a marker, leaving them loaded.
- The next four innings saw four total hits and four errors, between the teams. The Mustangs had first and second with two outs in the bottom of the third. They would score their first run of the game on a fielding error at third base, making it 4-1.
