GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team earned their long-awaited first victory of the 2021 season, on Thursday night. They bested the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg, in three sets.

Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria) led the Mounties with a game-high, 11 kills. She also had a team-high, 17 digs.

Ava Myers (Gallitzin, PA, Bishop Carroll) also had double-digit kills, with 10, while adding three blocks.

Emma Colyer (Orlando, FL, Olympia) registered 16 assists, whileÂ
Hannah Atzeni (Sligo, PA, Union) had 12.
How It Happened
- Both teams battled from start to finish in all three sets. In the first set, after a kill by Parrish tied the score at six, Pitt-Greensburg put together a run to go ahead 12-7.
- Mount Aloysius put answered with a 9-3 stretch, to give them a 16-15 lead. They continued playing tight until the Mounties found themselves down 23-21. A kill fromÂ
Bella Kies (Bellwood, PA, Bellwood-Antis ) got the Mounties the serve, and they scored the final three points, capped by another Parrish kill, to win the first set, 25-23.
- During the second set, the teams again traded the lead back and forth. Mount Aloysius found themselves down 22-19, close to tying up the game. However, they scored seven of the final nine points, earning the victory, 26-24. They scored their final two points on a kill by Myers and a block by
Kiersten Szpala (Ebensburg, PA, Central Cambria).
- In the third set, Pitt-Greensburg jumped ahead first, eventually stretching their lead to five, 13-8. However, again the Mounties responded, scoring seven of eight to take a 15-14 lead.
- Mount Aloyisus gained control by three straight points, twice, putting them ahead 20-17 and 23-20. They finished off the victory with a final kill by Myers and a service ace from Kies, winning 25-23.
Into the Box Score
- The game was tightly contested, as each set was decided by only three points. They actually needed to go past the normal 25 points in the second set.
- Mount Aloysius had their second highest hitting game of the season, as they hit .136 for the game. Their only game higher than that was in a loss to Penn State Harrisburg, when they hit .147.
- Myers hit an impressive .321 for the Mounties. She only committed one attack error to go along with her 10 kills.

- The Mounties are scheduled to travel to La Roche, next week for a mid-week JV matchup. Their next varsity match is set for October 9, at Hilbert.
- Hilbert is currently 0-8 on the season. They were delayed in part of their season, due to a COVID-19 related pause.
- Mount Aloysius has won the previous five matchups with the Hawks, all in three sets.
