ALTOONA, Pa. and CRESSON, Pa. - On Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, the Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team began their season at the Mountain Valley Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Penn State Altoona and Mount Aloysius. The Mounties lost the first game to SUNY Geneseo 76-47, and they also fell in the second game to Adrian College 84-52.
Leaders
- In the first game against SUNY Geneseo,
Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills) led the Mounties in scoring with 11 points and also dished out five assists.
Chloe Clemons (Kailua, HI, Kalaheo) came off the bench to score ten points with a perfect 4-4 shooting night from the floor.
- In the second game vs. Adrian College,
Bree Garzel (Port Allegany, Pa., Port Allegany) scored a team-high 18 points and was 4-8 from the three-point line.
Cameron Bates (Fort Pierce, FL, John Carroll) had a solid all-around performance chipping in seven points and leading the team with five assists and six rebounds.
How It Happened
Game #1 (vs. SUNY Geneseo)
- Mount Aloysius started the game strong, scoring the first five points, including a three-pointer by
Zoé Harding (Garrett, PA, Berlin-Brothersvalley). However, that was all they would get in the first quarter, with SUNY Geneseo following up with 10 unanswered points.
- At the start of the second quarter, the Mounties would answer back on two three-pointers by Stigers and Clemons, making the score 15-11.
- SUNY Geneseo did not let the Mounties get any closer though, stretching the lead to 19 by the end of the half.

Addison Jones (Orlando, Fl., Master's Academy) had a strong third quarter scoring three layups for the Mounties, giving her six points on the day.Â
Cameron Bates (Fort Pierce, FL, John Carroll) also contributed six points in the quarter and ended the game with eight points total. Despite their efforts, SUNY Geneseo finished the quarter with a 62-34 lead.Â
- In the fourth quarter, the Mounties were unable to make any significant runs to cut into the margin, with the game ending in a victory for SUNY Geneseo 76-47.
Game #2 (vs. Adrian College)
- Bates, who contributed seven points on the day, scored the first basket of the game, with Adrian quickly responding with a 6-0 run. Each team battled back-and-forth with Clemons tying the game near the end of the quarter 13-13. Adrian would be awarded and complete two free throws to finish the quarter with a slight lead 15-13.
- Adrian was able to inch ahead of the Mounties in the second quarter, including stretching the lead to eight at the 6:16 mark. The Mounties did not falter, however, with key back-to-back baskets by Garzel to make it 27-24. That was the closest the Mounties would get to Adrian in the quarter, with Adrian ultimately ending the half with a 42-33 lead.
- While the Mounties stayed with Adrian at the beginning of the third quarter, Adrian would eventually go on an 11-0 run to increase their lead to 18 at the 3:47 mark. They would keep this lead until the completion of the quarter, despite two threes from Garzel, including a buzzer beater.
- The Mounties used strong shooting from behind-the-arc to cut the margin to 64-50, with three-pointers from
Hanna Rittenhouse (Mc Veytown, Pa., Mifflin County) andÂ
Hailey Drutarosky (Freedom, Pa., Sewickley Academy). Drutarosky was 2-2 at the three-point line for the overall game.
- Adrian responded forcefully, however, holding the Mounties to just two more points for the rest of the game, with 84-52 as the final score.Â
Into the Box Score
- In both games, Mount Aloysius got solid contributions from their bench players, scoring 19 points against SUNY Geneseo and 25 in the game vs. Adrian College.
- In the second game, the Mounties were effective from behind-the-arc, scoring eight three-pointers with a 34.8 percentage.
