FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Spurred by a second-half comeback, the Mount Aloysius men's basketball team came up just short against Bridgewater College 59-57 in their opener Friday of the Hyatt Place Tipoff Classic. In Saturday's game, they were defeated by North Carolina Wesleyan 93-37.

Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain, Phelps School) continued his outstanding start to the season with a 19-point performance on 8-11 shooting.
Dwayne Jones (Philadelphia, PA, Greater Johnstown) contributed a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.
Jason Coronado (Orlando, FL, Ocoee) chipped in 10 points and also had 3 steals.
- In the following game vs. North Carolina Wesleyan, Jones continued his strong weekend with 14 points, going 7-11 from the field. Coronado also added 9 points, all from the three-point line.
How It Happened
Game #1 (vs. Bridgewater)
- Palacio's terrific shooting night started early when he contributed six of the Mounties' first nine points. However, Bridgewater held the slight edge after the first 5:30 minutes, leading 13-9.
- Bridgewater steadily increased the gap to 26-12 at the 7:49 mark. The Mounties countered though with Palacio again coming through to make the score 28-22.
- Bridgewater finished the half with a ten point margin, 36-26.
- Mount Aloysius and Bridgewater traded baskets early in the second half. The Mounties were able to chip away at the lead and cut it to five points about five minutes into the half.
- At about the 10 minute mark, the Mounties would make their charge, led by Jones and Coronado. Jones converted back-to-back layups and Coronado hit a go-ahead three-pointer to put the Mounties in front 48-47.
- The lead then fluctuated between the two teams for the next portion of the game with Bridgewater taking a one point lead, 58-57, at the 1:36 mark.
- The Mounties had opportunities to score in the final minute but unfortunately were unable to execute, with Bridgewater adding a free throw to make the final score 59-57.
Game #2 (vs. North Carolina Wesleyan)
- Coronado began the game hot from the three-point line, opening with 2 straight three-pointers to give the Mounties the early lead 6-5. Both shots were assisted by
Imil Britt (Johnstown, PA, Greater Johnstown), who finished the game with a team-high three assists.
- The Mounties stayed with North Carolina Wesleyan in the early part of the half, with the lead just three points at the 11:48 mark. North Carolina Wesleyan would then go on a 12-0 run to increase the gap between the teams and put the score at 28-13. Coronado stopped the run with his third three-pointer of the day to make it 28-16.
- The Mounties were held to just four more points the rest of the half, all by Jones, including a dunk at the 5:55 mark. The first half concluded with North Carolina Wesleyan leading 45-20.

De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin) had a good stretch at the start of the second half, contributing five points. North Carolina Wesleyan, however, continued to produce offensively, stretching the lead to 40, with the score 69-29 at the 12:29 mark.
- The Mounties were unable to cut into the significant lead and fell by a final score of 93-37.

- In the first game, Mount Aloysius won the battle inside, scoring 32 points in the paint to Bridgewater's 26, and also securing 46 to their opponent's 42 rebounds. The Mounties also performed well on defense, holding Bridgewater to 35.4 % from the field and just 21.7 % from the three-point line.
