Beadle and Priestley Lead Mounties to AMCC Championship

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team made their second trip to the AMCC Championship game, when they traveled to #1-seeded, Medaille. They earned the second championship in program history, with a 2-1 victory.

Leaders
- Tevin Beadle (Kingston, Jamaica, St. George's College) led the Mounties with two goals, both of which came in the second half. The goals give him seven total for the season.
- Goalkeeper, Luke Priestley (Edlesborough, England, Aylesbury Grammar School), made some impressive stops, on his way to ten total saves and the victory.

How It Happened
- Medaille came out shooting first, as they made Priestley save two shots in the first ten minutes.
- The first half was defined by the physical play on both sides. Five cards were handed out in the period, including a red card to Mount Aloysius' Ethan Meader (Rayne, England, Colchester Sixth Form College), in the 32nd minute. Meader's card left the Mounties playing a man down for the rest of the contest.
- Despite the hectic play in the half, neither team touched the scoreboard, heading to the break, tied at zero.
- Mount Aloysius came out of the half and could not have asked for a better start. Priestley made another save in the first minute and was followed up by a driving goal from Beadle, less than two minutes later. The quick turn put the Mavericks on their heels and behind, 1-0.
- The Mounties held strong with only ten men and would eventually add to their lead. In the 64th minute, Juan Camacho (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) found Beadle heading into the box. Beadle took two small touches and put the ball into the lower left corner of the goal, surprising Medaille's keeper who never moved. The goal gave the Mounties a 2-0 advantage.
- Shortly after the second goal, Beadle narrowly missed a hat trick with his next shot, that was just outside the left goal post.
- Over the final 25-plus minutes, the Mavericks forced Priestley to make six saves, as they tried to get back in the game. The only goal that Priestley allowed was a penalty kick by Medaille's, Ander Castillo, in the final minute of play. The goal was Castillo's 25th of the season.
- Castillo's goal was the final action of the match, as the score remained 2-1 when the final buzzer went off, granting the Mounties the victory.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius scored both goals and won the game, playing with only ten men, for almost sixty minutes, due to losing Meader in the 32nd minute.
- Medaille outshot the Mounties 23-7 overall and 12-5 in shots on goal.
- The Mavericks also held a significant advantage in corner kicks, as they had seven in the first half, nine total, while the Mounties only got two opportunities.

Champs Again
- The appearance in the Championship game was Mount Aloysius' second in program history. Their last came back in 2015, when they beat Penn State Behrend.
- The Championship is also their second in program history. The Men's Soccer program joins the Mountie Softball program as the only Mountie athletic teams to win multiple AMCC Tournament Championships.

Up Next
- With the victory, Mount Aloysius earns the AMCC's Automatic Bid to the NCAA Tournament. They will play next weekend, opponent, site, and time to be determined.
- The NCAA's Selection Show will occur on Monday, November 8, airing at 1:30 p.m.
