Men's Basketball Opens Season at Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Over the weekend, the Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team opened up the 2021-22 season, at the Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Tournament. They dropped both games, falling to Mary Washington on Saturday and Randolph on Sunday.

Leaders
- Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain, Phelps School) led the way in scoring for Mount Aloysius, averaging 20.5 points for the weekend, including a 29 point outburst on Sunday. He also led the Mounties with 18 total rebounds, including 11 on Sunday.
- Imil Britt (Johnstown, PA, Greater Johnstown) dished out a team-high, 10 assists, on the weekend. He had a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio for the tournament.

How It Happened
Game #1 (vs. Mary Washington)
- Mount Aloysius got off to a great start to the season, scoring the first eight points of the game. Jason Coronado (Orlando, FL, Ocoee) scored six in a row for the Mounties in the stretch.
- Mary Washington followed up the run by tying up the game at 10, with roughly 11 minutes to play in the first half.
- The Eagles stretched their biggest lead of the half, to six, on a free throw by Daniel Peterson, with 6:13 on the clock, at 23-17.
- Mount Aloysius tied the game three more times in the period, but were unable to take the lead. The Eagles hit a three with 13 seconds remaining to take a three-point lead into the break, 35-32.
- After the Mounties scored the first three points of the half to tie the game at 35, the Eagles hit two consecutive threes to go up by six which gave them the lead for good.
- UMW go their biggest lead of the day, 54-41 with 11:33 to go. The Mounties responded with ten straight points, cutting the lead to three, but that was as close as they got. Mary Washington went 9-10 down the stretch at the free throw line, to finish off the game, 78-66.

Game #2 (vs. Randolph)
- Randolph started off the game with two made threes, putting the Mounties down six. The stretch continued for the WildCats as they built up a 12-point lead in the first ten minutes.
- Mount Aloysius then went on a 22-9 run, taking a one-point lead, 35-34 with just over a minute remaining in the half. A WildCat three pointer with six seconds remaining in the half, put them ahead by three heading into the break, 39-36.
- In the second half, Randolph gradually stretched out their lead. They led by as many as 14, with just under 11 minutes remaining.
- Nine straight points by Palacio helped the Mounties get back to within five points, but no closer. Dwayne Jones (Philadelphia, PA, Greater Johnstown) added a dunk with seven seconds remaining to make the final score 92-84.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius was beat both days from behind the arc, as Mary Washington hit two more threes in the first game and Randolph hit three more in game two.
- Both opponents added a double-digit scorer off the bench, as they each beat the Mounties in bench points, as well.
- Mount Aloysius was down three at the half of both games, before being outscored by 14 points in the second half combined.

- Mount Aloysius will stay on the road, this Wednesday, when they travel to Carlisle, Pa., to play Dickinson.
- The Red Devils are scheduled to open their season, tonight, at York (Pa.).
