Well-balanced offense not enough for Women's Basketball vs. Alfred State

CRESSON, Pa. -- A well-balanced offensive attack by the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team was not quite enough against visiting Alfred State University, as it fell 71-59 Saturday afternoon.

Leaders
- Cameron Bates (Fort Pierce, FL, John Carroll) earned her second double-double on the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
- Zoé Harding (Garrett, PA, Berlin-Brothersvalley) scored 13 points and Bree Garzel (Port Allegany, Pa., Port Allegany) added 12 points. Each player also had two three-pointers.
- Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills) chipped in nine points and Hailey Drutarosky (Freedom, Pa., Sewickley Academy) contributed eight points.

How It Happened

The Mounties struck first with a three-pointer by Harding and layup by Bates for a score of 5-0. Harding and Bates again made baskets to stretch the lead to 10-3. By the end of the quarter, the Mounties held the slight advantage, 10-9.
- The Mounties would lose the lead at the beginning of the second quarter, on a three-pointer by Alfred State. Bates, however, responded to tie the game at 12 with six-and-a-half minutes remaining. Alfred State would then go on an 11-1 run over the course of the next three minutes. Alfred State sustained the advantage it built until the end of the quarter, leading 30-21.
- Drutarosky made back-to-back baskets in the early part of the third quarter to narrow the lead to seven, 32-25. Alfred State, however, maintained its cushion in the quarter, never letting Mount Aloysius get closer than seven points. The quarter ended with Alfred State ahead 51-40.
- Garzel connected on a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter to make it 51-43. The Mounties would then go on a run to get within one possession four minutes into the quarter for a score of 53-50. A minute later, Stigers nailed the game-tying three-pointer to make it 55-55. The two teams traded baskets and the game was again tied at 57.
- Although, Alfred State inched ahead in the final three minutes and held Mount Aloysius to just two more points. The game ended with Alfred State winning 71-59.

Into the Box Score

Mount Aloysius and Alfred State had the same number of assists - ten. Mount Aloysius, however, had fewer turnovers, only nine compared to Alfred State's 14.
- The Mounties also had the advantage in points-in-the-paint, scoring 30 points against Alfred State's 22 points.
