Lancaster, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team played their second game of the season, on Wednesday, at Lancaster Bible. They fell to the Chargers, 66-58.
Leaders
- Junior,
Imil Britt (Johnstown, PA, Greater Johnstown), led the Mounties with a game-high, 20 points, and a game-high, six assists. His six assists accounted for 75% of the Mount Aloysius dishes. Britt also went an impressive, 10-for-10 from the free throw line, on the day.
- Another Junior,
Enoch Quarcoo (Eastbourne, England), hauled in a team-high, eight rebounds, in 32 minutes.
- Senior,
Azim Hutson (Orlando, FL, Ocoee), played the full, 40 minutes, and blocked two shots. He was the only player to play all 40 minutes.
- Jordan Shrewbridge led the Chargers with 13 points and Seth Beers pulled in eight rebounds.
How it Happened
- Early in the game, both teams traded baskets, with one being a three from
Chance Wright (Pittsburgh, PA). The Mounties held a 5-4 lead after the first three minutes. That would be the last time Mount Aloysius held the lead.
- Lancaster Bible stretched the lead to 12 points (20-8), thanks to a 10-0 run. Sophomore,
Jevon Griffin (Myrtle Beach, SC, Socastee), scored the next ten Mountie points, including cutting the lead to seven with his second three-pointer of the half. The ten points were answered by LBC, who stretched their biggest lead of the half to 15 points, leading 33-18.
- The Mounties went on a 7-2 run, to close the gap heading into the half, to 35-25.
- In the second half, the teams battled closely, keeping the Charger lead between seven and 13 points, for the first ten minutes. Following a three-point make by Shrewbridge, the Mounties went on to score ten straight points, to tie the game at 48, with 7:04 remaining.
- While they could not get a lead, Mount Aloysius kept the game within three points, into the final two minutes. The final nine points scored by the Chargers, were all from the free throw line, as they outscored the Mounties, 9-2.
Into the Box Score
- Both teams played a very clean game, only producing 21 total turnovers. This led to many scoring opportunities.
- The Chargers owned the rebounding battle, out-rebounding the Mounties, 40-22.
- LBC also shot a better percentage from the floor, shooting 40% for the game, compared to 35% for Mount Aloysius. In the second half, the Mounties did hold their opponents to 31.8%, helping them get back into the game.
- The LBC bench made a major contribution, as well. The Charger subs outscored the Mountie bench, 37-9, for the game.
Up Next
Mount Aloysius is scheduled to get back on the court, next Wednesday (March 10), as they travel to play Clarion. The game will be the second game this season that features a non-Division III opponent for Mount Aloysius. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
