Mounties Open Season at Clarion

Clarion, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Basketbal team opened up their season on Friday, at Division II, Clarion University. In there first action, in over a year, they fell to the Golden Eagles, 84-39.

Leaders
- Freshman, Cameron Bates (Fort Pierce, FL, John Carroll), led the Mounties with 17 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. The game was her first appearance in a Mountie uniform.
- Sophomore, Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills), was the only other Mountie to reach double-figures, with 12 points.
- Zoé Harding (Garrett, PA, Berlin-Brothersvalley) contributed a team-high, two assists, on the night.

How It Happened
- Clarion scored the first five points of the game, before a basket by Kourtney Walls (Salix, PA, Forest Hills) opened up the Mountie scoring.
- The Mounties were unable to find the basket often, in the first half, which led to the big deficit. They only mustered three field goals in each quarter, until the fourth.
- Mount Aloysius eventually won the fourth quarter, shooting 46% on their way to a 16-12 advantage. They only made 23% of their shots on the night.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius was out-rebounded by the much bigger Clarion squad, in part due to the size advantage. However, the Mounties did grab ten offensive rebounds on the night, leading to eight second-chance points.
- Even with the frenetic pace of the game, neither team committed many turnovers. The Golden Eagles committed 13 miscues, while the Mounties made 14 mistakes.

Up Next
The Mounties are scheduled for a rematch with the Golden Eagles, on Sunday at 1 PM, in Clarion. These two games will be the only two official games of the season. All other games will be exhibitions or scrimmages.
