LA PLUME, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Keystone, on Saturday, to take on the Giants in a non-conference doubleheader. Keystone entered the fray with a 5-1 record, while the Mounties came in 5-5.
GAME 1
- The Mounties got off to a quick start, stringing together four hits in the top half of the first inning, producing two runs.Â
Brayden Lackey (New Cumberland, PA, Cedar Cliff) drove in the first run, asÂ
Ryan Leonard (James Creek, PA, Tussey Mountain) came around to score, after he singled with one out.Â
Joshua Brown (Manassas, VA, Osbourn Park) followed suit and drove inÂ
Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) for the second run of the inning. 2-0 Mount Aloysius
- Keystone answered back with one run of their own in the bottom half of the first, courtesy of one hit and a walk.
- Four more hits and two errors helped the Mounties extend their lead in the second inning. Leonard provided his second hit, in as many innings, driving in a run. Lackey provided a sacrifice fly, driving in his second run of the game. The four runs made it, 6-1.
- Mount Aloysius tacked on another run in the third inning when, in a first and third situation, they baited the Giants into throwing out Leonard at second base, allowingÂ
Tyler Suder (Boswell, PA, North Star)Â to score from third.
- Two Giant hits and one walk led to two runs, in the bottom of the third, cutting the Mountie lead to 7-3.Â
Quinn Fultz (McVeytown, PA, Mount Union) came into the game, in relief, getting the final out of the inning.
- In the top of the fourth, Iellimo singled to lead off, and was promptly followed up by a two-run homerun by
Troy Emert (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood), putting the Mounties ahead, 9-3. The round-tripper was Emert's second of the year.
- Fultz pitched strong out of the 'pen for Mount Aloysius, holding the Giants scoreless, until the seventh inning. He was roughed up in the seventh, allowing a walk and two hits, with the second hit being a three-run homerun, making it 9-6 Mounties. The bullpen was put to good use, asÂ
Douglas Cannon (Valencia, PA, Mars Area) earned the save, for his fourth of the season.
GAME 2
- The Giants got the first marker of the second game, in the bottom of the first inning, with two singles and a double steal.
- Down 1-0,
Joshua Brown tied up the game in the second with his first career homerun, a solo shot to left field.Â
- Answering back, Keystone used two hits and a Mountie error to score their second run, putting them back up, 2-1.
- In the top of the third, the Mounties tagged the Giants for three runs, while only picking up one hit. Five Mountie hitters reached base in the inning with a walk or being hit by a pitch. Two of the walks came with the bases loaded, forcing across runs. Emert drove in the other run, on a sac fly to left field.
- After Keystone responded with a run, in the bottom of the third, Mount Aloysius added two more in the fourth inning, without recording a hit. The Giants walked four Mountie hitters and hit a batter, forcing in two runs without having a ball in play. 6-3 Mount Aloysius.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Giants plated four runs, to push ahead 7-6. They used three hits, a walk, and an error to push all four runs across.
- Mount Aloysius responded, tying the game in the top of the sixth, with back-to-back hits.
Joshua Brown doubled with one out andÂ
Trap Wentling (Greenville, PA, Greenville) drove him in from second with a single, making it 7-7.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Keystone took the lead back without getting a hit, but a leadoff walk came around to score on a wild pitch, making it 8-7.
- Iellimo tied the game again in the seventh, doubling to left field, driving in Suder from third base.
- Again, the Giants responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh, making it 9-8. They would hold the Mounties scoreless over the final two frames, hanging on for the win.
Highlights
- Fultz picked up his first career victory, in Game 1, in relief. It was his second career appearance on the mound for Mount Aloysius.
- Leonard went 3-for-4 in the winning decision. It was his first three-hit game of the season.
- Iellimo reached base, an incredible eight out of nine times, on the day. He was 4-for-5, with one walk and one RBI. Iellimo was also hit by a pitch, three times in Game 2. He scored five of the Mounties runs.

The Mounties have a busy week ahead, as they travel to AMCC-foe, Pitt-Bradford, on Monday, to open conference play. They follow that up on Tuesday, when they travel to Indiana (Pa.) for a non-conference doubleheader. Pitt-Bradford is currently 1-1 on the season, while IUP is 1-15.
