Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hornets Sting Mounties in 3-1 Loss

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Sunday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team played the second game of a weekend doubleheader. It was the second consecutive weekend they played back-to-back days. The Mounties fell behind early and lost 3-1.

Leaders
- Lachie Back (Gordon, Australia, St. Piux X College) had the lone goal for the Mounties, off the bench. It was his first of the year. Back also led the Mounties with three total shots.
- Luke Priestley (Edlesborough, England, Aylesbury Grammar School) had a game-high, six saves, in goal for Mount Aloysius.

How It Happened
- Shenandoah got the scoring started, as Niclas Vavra scored in the seventh minute, on an assist, inside the box from Nathan Yared. It was the first shot on goal from either team.
- Over the next 20 minutes, much of the game was played in the Mountie defensive end. Priestley would make three of his saves during that stretch, including two where he had to lay out to stop them.
- Unfortunately, in the 27th minute, the Hornets got another short-range opportunity, which Vavra shot passed Priestley, for his, and the Hornets, second goal of the match.
- Priestley had two more saves before the half would end, but the highlight came with just over a minute remaining in the period. Shenandoah committed a foul, just outside of the box, resulting in a free kick for the Mounties. Back took the kick and bent it around the Hornet wall, into the top right corner of the net. The goal cut the Hornet lead in half and was Back's first of the season.
- In the second half, Mount Aloysius became more physical and kept the ball in their offensive end for a majority. They took the first six shots of the period.
- Shenandoah received their best chance of the second half, due to a Mount Aloysius foul that occurred inside the box. The foul resulted in a penalty kick, that was taken by Vavra. Vavra scored his third goal of the day, on the PK.
- Mount Aloysius did not go silently, creating multiple chances down the stretch. Their best chance came when Logan Walerysiak (Johnstown, PA, Conemaugh Township) got free for breakaway opportunity. Walerysiak's shot was stopped by the Hornet keeper, but rebounded right to Lincoln Jones (Dunkirk, MD, Northern). Jones uncontested shot soared over the top bar of the goal, leaving the Mounties without the marker.
- While the Mounties attempted two more shots, they were unable to score, leaving the final score at 3-1.

Into the Box Score
- The two halves were opposite, as both teams took significantly more shots than their opponent. Shenandoah owned most of the first half, while the Mounties were more aggressive offensively in the second.
- Fouls were about even, but were also related to the more aggressive team in each half.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius is set to get back on the road, this week, as they travel to Geneva on Wednesday.
- Geneva (1-2-1) is coming off of two, 1-0 losses, from the past weekend. Their lone win was a 4-0 victory over fellow AMCC-foe, La Roche, to begin the season.
