MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team competed at the Gator Invitational over the weekend, hosted by Allegheny College. The Mounties dropped all three matches they played.

Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria) led the Mounties with 31 kills on the weekend, including a season-high, 19 kills against Waynesburg.

Abigail Fletcher (Salem, VA, Glenvar) had 72 digs over the course of the tournament, leading Mount Aloysius.

Hannah Atzeni (Sligo, PA, Union) registered 42 assists in the three contests to lead the Mounties in that category.
How It Happened
Game 1 (vs. Waynesburg)
- By far their most competitive game of the season, the Mounties fought the Yellow Jackets tough. With the Mounties down, 18-14, they turned in an 8-0 run, taking a 22-18 lead. The run had three, Parrish kills, and two service aces from
Emma Colyer (Orlando, FL, Olympia).
- Waynesburg fought back, with the Mounties ahead, 24-22, they scored the next three points before the Mounties tied the game at 25. Waynesburg would score the next two, taking the first set, 27-25.
- Set number two started with bigger runs on both sides, as Waynesburg scored seven of nine points before the Mounties answered with seven of nine.
- Late in the set, the Mountie saw themselves behind, 24-18. They scored six straight points, to tie to match at 24. The Yellow Jackets scored the final two points of the set, ending the Mounties strong push to tie the overall game at 1.
- Mount Aloysius jumped ahead in set three, with the first six points. They continued to hold a strong advantage as the set continued, where they were ahead 20-12.
- The Yellow Jackets then put together a tough rally, actually taking the lead 24-23, scoring 12 of the next 15 points. Mount Aloysius, however, gathered themselves and scored the final three points, winning the third set, 26-24.
- In the fourth set, the Mounties got ahead early, giving them an 11-8 advantage. Waynesburg responded with seven straight points, putting them ahead for good, 15-11.
- The Mounties got within a point, at 18-17, but were unable to get over the hump, falling 25-21, dropping the match 3-1.
Game 2 (vs. Chatham)
- Mount Aloysius fell behind early in the first set, 5-1, and were unable to make the set interesting.
- They did cut the lead to two, 11-9, before Chatham scored 14 of the final 18 points, earning the first set win.
- In the second set, the Mounties found themselves behind by eight, 21-13. They were looking at a similar fate to the first set. Mount Aloysius then scored 10 of the next 11 points, taking a 23-22 lead.
- Chatham rebounded and tallied five of the final seven points, earning a 27-25 win, putting them ahead 2-0.
- Both teams traded points in the third set, with neither team having more than a two point lead as the Cougars led, 11-10. Mount Aloysius added a 6-1 run, putting them ahead 16-12.
- Unfortunately, Chatham scored 12 of the next 13 points, pulling ahead 24-17. While the Mounties scored four points in a row to cut into the lead, Chatham earned the final point, handing the Mounties a loss, 3-0.
Game 3 (vs. Allegheny)
- Playing the hosts in their third game of the tournament, Mount Aloysius fell behind 8-0 to start the first set and didn't recover. They fell in the set, 25-17, with that same eight point deficity being the difference.
- The Mounties threw the first punch in the second set, scoring six of the first seven, with the final two coming on kills by
Bella Kies (Bellwood, PA, Bellwood-Antis).
- Allegheny would then counter, using a 15-10 advantage, to gain a 16-11 lead. A 6-0 run from the Mounties gave them a 17-16 lead, making the game close again.
- Mount Aloysius was unable to keep the momentum, watching the Gators slowly pull ahead and earn the second set win, 25-22.
- In the third and final set, Allegheny used two, six-plus point runs to get the victory. They put the Mounties behind, getting a 6-1 advantage from the start. Allegheny also used a 7-0 run to get a 24-14 lead, before picking up the last point to win, 25-15.
Into The Box Score
- Mount Aloysius had their first game of the season with over 40 kills, as they had 47 in their Friday match against Waynesburg.
- The best hitting set of the weekend, came in the Mounties' second set against Chatham, as they hit .297 and had 15 kills, before ultimately falling, 27-25.
Up Next
- Mount Aloysius is scheduled to open up AMCC-play, on Saturday, when they travel to face Pitt-Bradford (10-3). They are also scheduled to play a non-conference match, against Alfred University, following the match against UPB.
- Pitt-Bradford is currently on a nine-game winning streak. They were picked to finish second in the AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Alfred is currently 5-5 on the season. They lost 3-0 to Penn State Behrend, earlier this season, and most recently beat Medaille, 3-0.
