Women's Tennis Splits Weekend Conference Matchups

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Tennis team played two matches over the past weekend, both counting towards the AMCC standings. The split the two matches, beating La Roche before falling to Penn State Altoona.

Saturday vs. La Roche
Mount Aloysius hosted their first match of the season, when the visitors met them at Ebensburg Tennis Center. With neither team sporting a full squad, they played out of six matches, rather than the standard nine.

Kierra Mountain (Roaring Spring, PA, Central) led the Mounties as she first teamed up with Kendra Sines (Somerset, PA, Somerset) to win 8-6, at #1 Doubles. Mountain then won 6-0, 6-0, at #2 Singles. Allison Brooks also won, 6-0, 6-0, at #3 Singles. Mount Aloysius was able to win points at #2 Doubles and #4 Singles, both by forfeit. They earned a 5-1 triumph, in the end.

Sunday vs. Penn State Altoona
The Mounties traveled to Altoona on Sunday afternoon, for their second matchup of the weekend. They ultimately fell 5-4, in a tightly contested match.

Mountain and Sines again won at #1 Doubles. They also each won their singles matches, giving the Mounties three total points. Sines won a close match at #1 Singles, losing the first set before winning the second set in a tiebreaker and the tiebreaking third set. Brooks and  teamed up to win at #2 Doubles, giving the Mounties point number four. However, they both fell in their Singles matches.

Mount Aloysius did not have players in #3 Doubles, #5 Singles, or #6 Singles, giving PSA the final three points by forfeit.

Player of the Week
For her effort on the weekend, Mountain was named the AMCC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She was 2-0 in both Singles and Doubles.

Up Next
Mount Aloysius gets three matches, this weekend, as they travel first to Juniata on Friday. They will turn right around and host Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC matchups on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
