CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team was unable to break through against AMCC leader Penn State Behrend, who defeated the host Mounties 84-55 Saturday afternoon.
Leaders
- Hailey Drutarosky (Freedom, Pa., Sewickley Academy) led the Mounties in scoring, finishing with ten points, including two three-pointers.
-
Bree Garzel (Port Allegany, Pa., Port Allegany) and
Chloe Clemons (Kailua, HI, Kalaheo) each contributed eight points, both also connecting on two three-pointers.
-
Zoé Harding (Garrett, PA, Berlin-Brothersvalley) chipped in seven points.
How It Happened
- Penn State Behrend opened up with a 10-2 lead, but the Mounties scored on their next two possessions, including a three-pointer by Drutarosky, to make it 10-7. Over the next few minutes, Behrend inched ahead but the Mounties stayed close and were only down by four points at the four-minute mark. Behrend continued to push forward, however, and increased their lead to double figures by the end of the first quarter, 31-19.
- Behrend controlled play at the start of the second quarter, scoring nine unanswered points to stretch the lead to 21, 40-19. The Mounties were unable to make any significant inroads in the quarter and trailed 50-29 at its conclusion.
- After Behrend converted a free throw at the beginning of the third quarter, the Mounties went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 15 points, 51-36. However, that is the closest they would get in the quarter and Behrend held the advantage, 66-40, at the end of the period.
- The Mounties only lost the final quarter by three points (18-15), but unfortunately the margin that Behrend built proved to be insurmountable. Penn State Behrend won the game by a final score of 84-55.
Into the Box Score
- The Mounties had a solid effort from the three-point line, sinking one more three-pointer than their opponent (eight to seven).
- Mount Aloysius was also perfect from the charity stripe, but did not get there frequently, going 5-of-5.
- For the second game in a row, the Mounties had ten or more players score.
