ALTOONA, Pa. -- In a close contest, the Mount Aloysius women's basketball team came up just short, 56-50, at AMCC rival Penn State Altoona Wednesday evening, splitting the season series.

Cameron Bates (Fort Pierce, FL, John Carroll) finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and four blocks.

Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills) was also in double figures, scoring 14 points, including two long range makes.

Abbey Dobbins (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) and
Zoé Harding (Garrett, PA, Berlin-Brothersvalley) both came off the bench to add eight and seven points respectively.
How It Happened
- After the opening five minutes, the Mounties led 7-3. They stretched the margin to 11-5 on a Dobbins layup. However, Penn State Altoona went on a 8-0 run to close the quarter, taking over the lead 13-11.
- The second quarter got off to a slow start with neither team scoring until the 6:25 mark, when Penn State converted a layup to make it 15-11. Over the next few minutes, Penn State Altoona increased the advantage to 19-11. However, Mount Aloysius used stifling defense to prevent Penn State Altoona from scoring the rest of the quarter. The Mounties sank six free throws, including four by Bates, to bring them within two points at the conclusion of the half, 19-17.
- Stigers made two free throws at the beginning of the third quarter to tie the game. On the next two possessions, the Mounties scored again, with Harding connecting on a go-ahead three-pointer and Bates following with a jumper, giving them a 24-19 lead. But Penn State Altoona worked their way back, regaining the lead, 25-24, about halfway through the period. Penn State Altoona widened the score to 29-24 as the quarter entered its final stages. The Mounties answered however, with Stigers nailing a three-pointer and two free throws to even the game at 29. In the last minute, Penn State Altoona went on a small run to finish the quarter leading 34-29.
- Bates began the fourth quarter by converting a layup to cut the lead to three points, 34-31. Penn State Altoona followed with four unanswered points to stretch the advantage to 38-31. For the rest of the quarter, the Mounties stayed within reach - cutting the lead to four points on multiple occasions - but ultimately could not overcome the slight margin built by Penn State Altoona, falling 56-50.
