ALTOONA, Pa. -- Although Mount Aloysius stayed close in the first half, host Penn State Altoona pulled away in the second half to win 87-67 Wednesday night.

Dwayne Jones (Philadelphia, PA, Greater Johnstown) had a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. He also was active on defense, recording two steals and three blocks.

Mike Harris (Hampton, Va., Peninsula Catholic) contributed 17 points, six rebounds, and a team-high three assists.

Wesley Ayers (Independence, VA, Grayson County) was the third Mountie in double figures, scoring 12 points, including two three-pointers.

How It Happened
- Penn State Altoona obtained the early advantage, leading 14-2 at the 15 minute mark. In the next couple minutes, Ayers knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit to seven, 16-9. Another shot from deep, this time from
Mike Harris, narrowed the lead even further at the 11 minute mark, 18-16.
- Over the next several minutes, Penn State Altoona maintained a small lead before they were able to expand it to 12 points, 36-24, at the 5:42 mark. However, the Mounties clawed their way back and again got the game to within one possession in the final minute of the half, 41-39. But Penn State Altoona scored four points to conclude the half, giving them the lead, 45-39.
- In the opening minutes of the second half, Penn State Altoona increased the gap to 13 points, 54-41, at the 16:28 mark. A highlight-reel play occurred on the next possession when Ayers stole the ball and passed it off the backboard to Jones for the emphatic dunk. Harris then carried the momentum forward, scoring back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to single figures, 56-47.
- Penn State Altoona responded forcefully, however, going on a 7-0 run. They continued to build on this advantage, with the margin growing to 20 points at the ten minute mark, 69-49. Mount Aloysius could not make any significant inroads in the final ten minutes, eventually falling 87-67.
