Cold third quarter lets down Mounties vs. Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Mounties' first half advantage slipped away due to a cold third quarter, resulting in a 58-46 loss at Alfred State University Saturday afternoon.

Leaders
-
Cameron Bates (Fort Pierce, FL, John Carroll) earned her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
- Bree Garzel (Port Allegany, Pa., Port Allegany) and Carly Stigers (Beaverdale, PA, Forest Hills) each contributed seven points.
- Karissa Mercier (Freedom, Pa., Freedom) came off the bench to add six points.

How It Happened
- Mount Aloysius played an excellent first quarter, leading the whole way, and stretching the margin to as many as seven points, 11-4, at the 3:32 mark. Alfred State cut the lead in the final minutes for an 11-8 score at the conclusion of the first quarter.
- Alfred State took over the lead for the first time about one minute into the second quarter, 12-11. Over the middle part of the quarter, the game would go back-and-forth, with the lead changing hands multiple times. Mount Aloysius was able to gain some separation in the last minute, stretching the lead to four points, 24-20. A free throw by Alfred State brought the score to 24-21 at the end of the half.
- The Mounties saw their slight lead disappear in the third quarter, in which Alfred State outscored the Mounties 20-6. Alfred State had an eleven-point advantage by the end of the quarter, 41-30.
- In the final quarter, the Mounties were unable to come back and ultimately fell 58-46.
