Mounties Drop Four-Set Match to Franciscan

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio -- On Monday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team traveled to Indian Creek High School to take on Franciscan University, in a non-conference matchup. The Mounties fell to the Barons, 3-1.

Leaders
- Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples) led the Mounties with 10 kills and 23 digs.
- Sydney Lechner (Bellwood, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis) had a team-high, four aces.
- Freshman, Kaylee Smith (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona), added a career-high and game-high, four blocks.

How It Happened
- Mount Aloysius fell behind 9-2 in the first set, and struggled to gain traction. They only had five kills and committed seven errors, dropping the set, 25-17.
- In the second set, the Mounties got off to a much better start and held control for the majority. Franciscan only led twice, at 5-4 and 16-15. The Mounties finished the set strong, scoring ten of the final 12 points, including three consecutive aces from Lechner, tying the game at one set a piece.
- The two teams played the first 20 points of the third set even, with the biggest lead being two points. Unfortunately for Mount Aloysius, the Barons scored seven of eight points to gain advantage and the Mounties never got closer than three points, falling 25-21.
- Franciscan used two, five-plus point stretches in set number four, to down the Mounties. Mount Aloysius did fight back, cutting it to 20-15 and 24-18, but were too little, too late.
