MYRTLE BEACH -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team got their spring trip to Myrtle Beach started off on the right foot, on Sunday, as they came from behind to win in Game One, before winning Game Two in dominating fashion. They played Framingham State in both games.
Leaders
-Â
Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) had three hits on the day, with none bigger than his walk-off solo homerun in the seventh inning of Game One. He finished the day, 3-for-6 with three RBIs.
-Â
Seth Smith (Mapleton Depot, PA, Mount Union) made an impact on the mound, as he appeared in both ends of the doubleheader, picking up the win in Game One and earning the save in the second game. In total he went 3.2 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four.
How It Happened
Game One
- After two scoreless frames, Mount Aloysius pushed the first run across, in the third inning. Iellimo picked up his first RBI of the day, on a suicide squeeze, giving the Mounties a 1-0 lead.
- The Mounties picked up another run in the third inning, whenÂ
Zack Peck (Huntingdon, PA, Huntingdon) scored on a little league style homerun. He tripled down the right field line, before scoring on a throwing error, making it 2-0.
- Framingham State added a run in the fifth, three in the sixth on a three-run homer, and one more in the top of the seventh, pulling ahead with a 5-2 lead.
- Down to their final at-bat, the Mounties needed three runs to tie.Â
Trap Wentling (Greenville, PA, Greenville) took care of the three runs, with a game-tying, three-run homer, with nobody out after the first two batters reached base. With one out, Iellimo added the dagger when he hit his homerun to left field, ending the game, 6-5.
Game Two
- Iellimo started the second game off hot, as well. He drove in the Mounties first run with a double down the left field line, giving them a 1-0 lead.
- The Rams scored the tying marker in the second inning, before neither team scored in the third frame.
- In the fourth inning,Â
Jackson Kozlovac (Portage, Pa., Portage) singled down the left field line, driving in Peck, to make the score, 2-1. followed that up with a 2-RBI single of his own, upping the lead to 4-1.
-Â
Josh Robinson (Woodbridge, VA, Gar-Field) added the final insurance run, in the seventh inning, with another suicide squeeze. Smith held off the rams to earn the 3+ inning save.
Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius registered nine hits in each of the two games. Many of them were spread out evenly, as onlyÂ
Tyler Suder (Boswell, PA, North Star) (Game One) and Iellimo (Game Two) had multi-hit games.
- Framingham State committed two errors, in Game One, one of which led directly to a run. Mount Aloysius only committed one error, but the runner did come around to score.
