Lions Slip By Mounties, 17-16

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Lacrosse team traveled to Bryn Athyn to take on the Lions, in a non-conference matchup. The Mounties fell in a tight match, 17-16.

Leaders
- Maddie Waite (New Oxford, PA, New Oxford) led the Mounties with six goals. She scored on only six shots, not including her two free-position scores. She also caused two turnovers.
- Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, MD, St. Maria Goretti) had a team-high, six ground balls, to go with a goal and three caused turnovers. The six ground balls tied her season-high.
- Goalkeeper, Zoe Swank (Romeoville, IL, Romeoville), had 11 saves, compared to only one for the Lion goalie.

How It Happened
- Bryn Athyn started the game off with a goal in just the second minute of the game. Mount Aloysius responded by scoring the next four goals, giving them a 4-1 lead. Waite scored twice while Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) and Courtney Vought (Somerset, PA, Somerset) both added a goal.
- Waite added another goal, in between two Bryn Athyn markers, giving the Mounties a 5-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Waite's third goal came on a free-position shot.
- To start the second quarter, Bryn Athyn scored the first two goals, both in the opening three minutes, to tie the game at five. The Mounties responded, with Mallie Lanier (Bealeton, Va., Liberty) scoring first and was followed by Waite scoring again, making it 7-5.
- Bryn Athyn ended the quarter scoring five goals, surrounding one more goal by Waite. The run put the Lions ahead, 10-8, at the half.
- Opening up the second half, Mason scored her goal on a free-position shot, cutting the lead to 10-9. The teams continued alternating goals, making it 12-10. the second Mountie goal was scored by Vought.
- Mount Aloysius continued by outscoring the Lions, 3-2 over the final eight minutes of the quarter, sending them to the fourth quarter, down by one goal. Figinski, Waite, and Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) each scored a goal in that stretch.
- Lanier tied the game for the Mounties, scoring her third goal of the game, in the first minute of the quarter. Figinski followed that with a free-position goal, giving the Mounties a 15-14 lead.
- Bryn Athyn would go on to score the next three goals to take a 17-15 lead. Geissler scored one last Mountie goal to pull within one, 17-16, but were unable to add another before the final buzzer.

Into the Box Score
- Bryn Athyn outshot Mount Aloysius 37-22 for the game. With a 23-9 advantage in the second and third quarters.
- Swank kept the Mounties in the game, as she saved 11 shots, while there was only one save by the Lion goalie. 
- The Lions also had a major advantage on Draw Controls, 26-11.

Up Next
- The Mounties will take a brief hiatus before coming back home, on Friday, April 22, to take on St. Mary's (Md.) in a United East matchup.
- The meeting will be the first-ever between the two programs.
