Juniata Humbles Mounties in Doubleheader Sweep

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team hosted a non-conference doubleheader, on Saturday, as they matched up against Juniata College. The Mounties had a struggle in both games, coming out on the losing end.

Leaders
Joshua Brown (Manassas, VA, Osbourn Park) went 2-for-4 on the day, with two RBIs, while reaching base five total times.
- Game Two starter, Nick Lagnese (North Huntingdon, PA, Norwin), had the best start of the day, going 5.0-plus innings, giving up just two runs and striking out five batters. He earned a no-decision.

How It Happened
Game One
- Juniata jumped ahead in the top of the first inning, as their first two runs came on two-run homer. They added a third run that scored on two hits that followed in the frame, giving them a 3-0 lead.
- The Mounties came roaring back, as Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) tripled in the first run, then scored on an Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, VA, Prince William County) sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 3-2. Troy Emert (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood) reached after Bell, by getting hit by a pitch. He would advance to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch, then score on a Brown single to right field, tying the game.
- Both teams had 1-2-3 innings in the second and third innings. Juniata's Evan Mock broke the 3-3 tie with a leadoff homerun in the fourth inning, making it 4-3.
- With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, the Mounties strung together three consecutive singles, allowing  to come around and score, again tying the game.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Emert walked and stole second, putting him in scoring position. Brown singled to drive him in, giving the Mounties a 5-4 lead.
- Disaster struck in the top of the sixth inning, as Juniata used seven hits and an error to plate six runs and take a 10-5 lead. They also left two runners on base in the inning.
Trap Wentling (Greenville, PA, Greenville) got one back for the Mounties in the bottom of the sixth inning, when he homered to center field. The homerun was his third of the season.
- Mount Aloysius tried to climb back into the game, in the bottom of the seventh, as Emert and Brent Creehan (Westmoreland, PA, Penn Trafford) each produced RBI singles, but the final two batters struck out. The Mounties dropped Game One, 10-8.

Game Two
- To start Game Two, Juniata scored one run in the top half of the first inning. An odd play, with runners on first and third, and two outs, Lagnese picked off the runner at first. The runner took off for second and got in a run down, allowing the runner at third to score before being tagged out. 1-0 Eagles.
- Mount Aloysius got on the board, in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a bases loaded wild pitch. They were only able to get the lone run, tying the game at one.
- In the top of the fifth, Juniata took a 2-1 lead, on a leadoff homerun. The Mounties scored to even it up, again, as Emert drove home Iellimo with an RBI single, tying the game at two.
- Heading to extra innings, tied at two, the Mounties got the first batter to ground out in the eighth. The next eight batters reached base safely, en route to seven runs on only three hits. There were six walks in the frame, one of which was intentional. 9-2 Eagles.
- While Mount Aloysius would load the bases in the bottom of the eighth, they were held scoreless, as they dropped the second game, 9-2.

Into the Box Scores
- In Game One for the Mounties, each of the nine starters picked up a hit, with Brown and Wentling both having two hits.
- Both teams walked nine times in Game Two. However, eight different Eagles were walked, while Brown and Iellimo accounted for seven of the nine Mountie free passes.
- The Mounties also left 14 men on base in the second game, while Juniata only left seven.
