Mounties Split with Pioneers, Make Medaille Series Important for Playoffs

ALFRED, N.Y. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Alfred State, to take on the Pioneers. The games had major playoff seeding implications, as both teams are fighting for the #2 seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament. The two games were split, leaving the playoff outcome to be decided on Wednesday.

Leaders
- Fr. Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md., Chopticon) pitched another gem in Game One, hurling 7.0 innings and only allowing one run. He struck out nine batters and also went 3-for-7 on the day, at the plate.
- Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) went 2-for-6 between the two games, driving in four runs in the process, three of them coming in the Game One victory.
- James Rice (Leechburg, PA, Greensburg Central Catholic) also had a solid performance in Game One, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

How It Happened
Game One
- Alfred State struck first, after holding Mount Aloysius scoreless in the first, they had two, two out hits that led to a run, giving them a 1-0 lead. It would be the Pioneers only score in Game One.
- Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, VA, Prince William County) led off the second inning being hit by a pitch and was promptly followed by a Joshua Brown (Manassas, VA, Osbourn Park) double, putting runners at second and third. Rice followed them with a one-out, two-RBI single, to give the Mounties a 2-1 lead.
- Quade continued with two zeros on the board, getting the Mounties to the top of the fourth. Rice led off the inning with another single. With Rice on second and two outs, Tyler Suder (Boswell, PA, North Star) singled to drive him home, scoring the Mounties third run. After Suder swiped second, Quade followed him with an RBI single, giving the Mounties a 4-1 lead.
- Mount Aloysius would tag on three insurance runs, in the top of the sixth inning, when Iellimo doubled with the bases loaded, driving in all runners to make it, 7-1. Quade finished off the game with two more zeros to give the Mounties the victory.

Game Two
- After a 1-2-3 inning for the Mounties, the Pioneers plated three runs in the bottom of the first on a three-run homer, that came with two outs. They added a fourth, in the second inning, when a double and an error allowed a runner to come across. 4-0 Pioneers.
- In the top of the third, Quade doubled with two outs, that drove home Trap Wentling (Greenville, PA, Greenville), who had walked earlier in the inning. Iellimo followed with an RBI single, cutting the lead to 4-2.
- The game remained 4-2 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Alfred State tallied four hits that led to two runs, giving them a 6-2 lead. They also added two more in the seventh, on three hits and an error, seeing them ahead, 8-2.
- Mount Aloysius was unable to add any tallies, dropping Game Two, 8-2.

Into the Box Scores
- Four Mounties had two hits in Game One of the doubleheader; Quade, Rice, Suder, and Wentling. No Mounties had multiple hits in the second game, as all nine hits came from different players.
- In Game Two, Mount Aloysius had seven runners left on base, while Alfred State only had five.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius is scheduled to take on Medaille, on Wednesday, in their regular season finale.
- Medaille is 1-22 on the season, after dropping both games of their doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg, on Monday.
- Playoff implications are squarely on Wednesday's series. The Mounties could end up as either the #2 or #3 seed in the AMCC Tournament. With a sweep, they will earn the #2 seed, and with a loss or two losses, they will be the #3 seed. That will also determine when they play next, as the #1 and #2 seeds receive byes to the Championship round, beginning on May 12.
