Mounties Draw with Golden Tornadoes

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Wednesday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team hosted Geneva, in a non-conference matchup. The two teams played 90 minutes to a 1-1 draw.

Leaders
- Juan Camacho (Ibaque, Colombia / San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) scored his second goal of the season, to lead the Mounties. Michael Boyle (Woolwich Township, N.J. / Kingsway) added an assist on the goal.
- Goalkeeper, Luke Priestley (Edlesborough, England / Aylesbury Grammar School), had just two saves for the Mounties, but did lead the team.

How It Happened
- The first half had a couple close calls on scoring opportunities, especially for the Mounties. In the 18th minute, Logan Walerysiak (Johnstown, Pa. / Conemaugh Township) hit the left post with a shot that ricocheted off a defender and ended up being a corner kick. The Mounties would fail to score from the corner. About four minutes after Waleysiak's shot, Louis Bez (Bordeaux, France / Lycée Sainte-Marie de la Bastide) hit the cross bar on another shot and Ethan Meader (Rayne, England / Colchester Sixth Form College) had his follow-up shot blocked, keeping the Mounties off the board again.
- In the second half, Mount Aloysius put the first shot on goal, in the 50th minute. The shot was saved by Geneva's Gabriel Kemp. The Golden Tornadoes scored the first goal of the game, in the 64th minute, as Kyle Lapoure dribbled into the box and fired a shot past Priestley for a 1-0 lead.
- After each team picked up a yellow card, the Mounties scored on a free kick opportunity. Boyle took the kick from the left side of the field, outside of the box. His kick towards the goal found Camacho, who headed the shot past Kemp to tie the game at one each.
- Following the Mountie goal, Mount Aloysius put two shots on goal and Geneva had one, but none found the net. However, over the final 15-plus minutes of the game, there four more cards handed out as the game became extremely physical. With neither team scoring, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius held a strong advantage in both shots and corner kicks, giving them more scoring opportunities. They outshot the Golden Tornadoes, 13-7, with a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Mounties also had five more corner kicks (7-2) than Geneva.
- There were 25 combined fouls, in addition to the seven total cards that were issued.
