Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Patterson Wins First Game as Head Coach in 1-1 Week for Men's Volleyball

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team wrapped up a 1-1 week, on Saturday, with a loss to Elizabethtown. The highlight of the week, though, came on Thursday when the Mounties beat Wilson and earned Head Coach, Logan Patterson, his first career victory.

Leaders
- Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) and Andrew Wlodarczyk (East Aurora, N.Y. / East Aurora) each tallied 14 kills between the two games, with Wlodarczyk hitting a team-high, .176, on the week. Franz led the team with 14 digs.
- Setter, Connor O'Mealia (North Chili, N.Y. / Churchville Chili), had 42 assists for the week, including 30 assists in the team's victory against Wilson.

How It Happened
Game One vs. Wilson
- Set one saw both teams figuring themselves out, playing in their first action of the season. After a service error by the Mounties made it 10-9, in favor of Mount Aloysius, they followed that by scoring six of the next seven points and grabbing a 16-10 lead. They worked and held the advantage, grabbing the first set, 25-18.
- The second set looked familiar as the game was tied through the first 16 points. The Mounties then scored the next six points and never looked back. While the Phoenix got as close as three, the Mounties scored seven of the final eight points and won set number two, 25-16.
- In the third set, there were three main scoring runs. The first came from the Mounties, taking the score from 3-2 Wilson and scoring five straight to make it 7-3. Wilson responded with four straight to knot the score at seven. The final scoring run came from Mount Aloysius, as they took a tie score (11-11) and grabbed seven of the next eight points to lead 18-12. Wilson managed to fight to stay in the game, but the lead was too much as the Mounties finished them off, 25-21.

Game Two vs. Elizabethtown
- The Blue Jays handled the Mounties easily, never letting them score more than 18 points in any of the sets. They also tallied more than 30 attack attempts than the Mounties.

Into the Box Scores
- In their win against Wilson, the Mounties hit .265 for the game. They tallied 37 kills and 15 errors. However, in their loss to Elizabethtown, they hit zero and had 15 each of kills and errors.
- Elizabethtown's leading hitter, Steve Swain, had 15 kills in their game against the Mounties. That matched the Mount Aloysius team total for the contest.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius will travel, next Sunday, to Bard for a tri-match with Bard and Wilkes.
- Last season, they were also scheduled to play a tri-match with these two teams, but it got cancelled due to weather.
- Bard is currently 0-3 on the season, with losses to Wisconsin Lutheran, Drew, and Emmanuel. They will play New Jersey City, on Thursday.
- Wilkes is 3-0 on the campaign, beating Lehman, Mount Saint Vincent, and Purchase. The Colonels are scheduled to play Elizabethtown, on Tuesday, before the tri-match.
