Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Mounties Fall Twice in Bard Tri-Match

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- On Sunday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team traveled to Bard for a tri-match against the host Raptors and Wilkes.

Leaders
- Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) had a solid day, with 22 kills, including 19 in the Mounties' five-set loss to Bard.
- Setter, Connor O'Mealia (North Chili, N.Y. / Churchville Chili), had 48 assists on the day, including a career-high, 35 in the Bard match.

How It Happened
Match One vs. Bard
- The first set saw the lead change hands multiple times, with the Mounties last having a lead at 15-14. The Raptors took control of the set, out-scoring the Mounties 11-5 to grab a 25-20 win.
- Mount Aloysius controlled the second set, as they never trailed. Bard scored to make it 18-14 Mounties, before the visitors outscored them 7-2 and tied the game at one set a piece.
- After starting with a 6-2 lead, the Mounties then 23-13 to drop the set. While the lead changed hands a few times, a Bard 5-0 run gave them the lead for good.
- In the fourth set, the Mounties played from behind for the majority. Bard held a 22-18 lead, late in the set, close to closing out the Mounties. Two kills by Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y. / East Aurora) and some crucial plays allowed the Mounties comeback and score a 25-23 set victory to head to a fifth set.
- Bard grabbed a 4-2 lead in the early going and never surrendered the lead. The Mounties did push the limits, cutting the lead to 13-12, but the Raptors closed out the final two points to put away the 3-2 victory.

Match Two vs. Wilkes
- While the Mounties started quickly and led 7-4, it would not be enough. Wilkes did not allow the Mounties to score consecutive points the rest of the set, grabbing a 25-14 victory in set one.
- Mount Aloysius did not have much more success in the second set, falling behind 9-5. Wilkes kept the pressure on, winning the set, 25-15, in similar fashion to the first.
- In the third set, Mount Aloysius continued to fight, despite falling behind, 13-5. They were able to fight back, cutting the lead to 20-18, but that would be as close as they got. Wilkes scored five of the final six points to end the match, with a 25-19 victory.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius struggled hitting, as they hit .198 in the loss to Bard and a paltry -.068 in the loss to Wilkes. The Colonels had 16 more total fkills than the Mounties in the three-set match.
