Mounties Open Conference Play at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio -- On Tuesday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team played their first AMCC contest of the spring, as they traveled to Hiram to face the Terriers. Hiram downed the Mounties in three straight sets.

Leaders
- Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) led the Mounties with nine kills on the evening. He also added nine digs.
- Setter, Connor O'Mealia (North Chili, N.Y. / Churchville Chili), had a team-high, 15 assists.
- Liam Craw (Palmerston North New Zealand / Freyberg High School) registered a game-high, 11 digs, in the loss.

How It Happened
- After splitting the first two points of the match, Hiram took control and scored the next eight points to take a 9-1 lead. While the Mounties scored the next four point and cut the lead to 9-5, the Terriers would not look back. The Mounties did not score more than one point at time, dropping the set, 25-13.
- In set number two, Mount Aloysius started out strong. They took an early 4-1 lead and later led 12-8, all without trailing. Hiram tied the game at 12, and was followed by a 3-0 run by the Mounties. The back and forth continued, as Hiram scored five straight points and took their first lead of the set. Mount Aloysius followed that up with a 6-1 run, to lead 21-18. Unfortunately for the Mounties, Hiram scored the next six points and seven of the final eight points, to grab a 25-23 victory.
 - The two teams kept the third set close early, as they were tied 5-5. Hiram scored 13 of the next 15 points and began taking control of the set. They continued their dominance, as they finished off the Mounties, 25-12, end the 3-0 match.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius struggled hitting over the entire game, as they registered a .067 percentage for the game. Their best set saw them hit zero, as they had eight kills and eight errors.
- Hiram had an advantage in the service game, as they delivered nine aces in the game, compared to only three by the Mounties.

Up Next
- The Mounties get back into non-conference play, on Saturday, when they host Hood.
- Hood is currently 1-3 on the season, following a three-set loss to Elizabethtown on Tuesday night.
- The Blazers are in their first season as a program.
