Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mounties Extinguish Phoenix

Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball earned the 70-58 victory over Wilson College this Tuesday, November 14th.

Freshman forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) controlled the paint on both sides of the ball, scoring 16 while adding 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. The Mountie defense proved especially suffocating in the first half, holding Wilson to just 18 points on 19% shooting from the floor. Junior guard Chloe Clemons (Kailua, Hawaii, Kalaheo) matched Kosmack's point total while adding 13 rebounds and 2 steals. Freshman guard Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) rounded out the Mounties top performers, going 3-6 from behind the arc while recording 5 blocks on the defensive end. 4 of those blocks came in the third quarter, helping put the Mounties up 19 and setting them up for their highest lead of the game after an early free throw in the fourth.

Despite shooting 50% in their 24-point third quarter, Mount Aloysius had trouble shooting the ball throughout the game, shooting 36.6% from the field and 26.9% from three. The defensive effort overall proved effective as the Phoenix were held to 25.4% shooting for the game while going 0-10 from three. Mountie fouls kept Wilson in the game, with the visitors taking twice as many trips to the line including 19 free throw attempts in just the fourth, the only quarter where the Mounties were outscored. Wilson forward Adrianna Stricek acted as her team's top performer, scoring 27 with 16 rebounds. After being held to 1-12 shooting in the first two quarters, Stricek would go 8-9 in the second half as the Phoenix attempted to overcome the double-digit deficit. Despite a foul-heavy fourth quarter which saw their lead cut to single digits, the Mounties would make their free throws to earn their first win of the year.

Mount Aloysius women's basketball travels to Maryland to take on Hood College this Thursday, November 16th. The Blazers enter the contest 0-2 on the year, coming off a 51-55 loss to Mary Baldwin University.
