Frederick, Md. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball defeated the Hood College Blazers on the road this Thursday, November 16th.
Sophomore guard
Jade Love-Morris (Elizabethtown, Pa., Elizabethtown) led the Mounties with an 18 point, 8 rebound performance, adding on three steals. Love-Morris was especially active on the boards early, grabbing four in the first quarter as the Mounties took a six point lead into the second. A cold shooting stretch kept the visitors from extending their lead further, ending the half up 29-24.
The third quarter saw the Mounties' best performance of the half, outscoring the Blazers 18-9. Freshman guard
Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) continued her hot shooting streak, going 3-6 from behind the arc, including a pair of threes to help her team take a 14 point lead into the fourth. Kohlwaies is shooting 55.6% from deep on the year, while averaging 16 ppg. Junior guard
Chloe Clemons (Kailua, Hawaii, Kalaheo) contributed with five points at the top of the third to help grab the momentum, and would lead the Mounties in assists with four.
Freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) battled in the post to record a team-high 9 rebounds to go with 13 points. The Blazers struggled to defend the paint without fouling, giving Kosmack the chance to go 7-8 from the charity stripe, recording her first miss from the line in four games. Kosmack's free throw shooting bolstered Mountie efforts in the fourth, where fast-break opportunities were forced and converted at a high rate.
Despite the strong offensive presence on fast breaks and paint opportunities, the Mounties were cold as a team from three, shooting just 2-16 outside of Kohlwaies's attempts. Mount Aloysius also struggled with ball movement, recording 23 turnovers with just 10 assists across the contest. However, strong defense in both transition and the half court limited the damage, as Hood would be able to record only 11 points off of Mountie turnovers. Conversely, the visitors would record 21 points on 17 Blazer turnovers.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball hosts the Hiram College Terriers this Saturday, November 18th at 2:00pm. Hiram enters the contest 0-1 on the year, coming off a 59-68 loss to Fredonia.
