Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball earned a conference victory this Saturday, December 2nd against the Pitt-Bradford Panthers.
Freshman forwardÂ
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) earned her fifth double double of the season for the Mounties, posting a 20 point, 15 rebound stat line to lead her team in both categories. Kosmack's interior defense pushed Pitt-Bradford outside, where the Mountie perimeter defense would hold the Panthers to just 19% shooting in the first quarter. At the other end, Mount Aloysius would open with a stellar 61% shooting across the opening ten minutes, pushing their lead to ten heading into the second quarter.Â
Although both teams had difficulties scoring the ball in the second quarter, the Mounties were able to carve out a 13 point lead heading into the third, which would immediately be expanded by strong guard play. JuniorÂ
Chloe Clemons (Kailua, Hawaii, Kalaheo) would go 4-5 from three for the game, while freshmanÂ
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) would score 16 to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Although Mount Aloysius would use this hot shooting to expand their lead to 17, the Panthers responded in kind, heating up from three to go into the final quarter down 12.
Continued three point shooting from Pitt-Bradford saw the hosts' lead cut to six in the fourth, but efficient foul shooting and a final Clemons three would put the game out of reach for the visitors. Both teams struggled with turnovers throughout the game, each tallying 23 as a team. The difference makers was the paint presence and points in transition, with Mount Aloysius earning more than double their opponent's total in both categories. The game would come to an end with the hosts maintaining their lead, and Mount Aloysius would earn the 76-65 win.Â
Mount Aloysius women's basketball travels to take Penn-State Altoona next Wednesday, December 6th. Penn-State Altoona enters the contest 4-3 on the season, coming off a 61-47 victory over Hilbert.Â
