Altoona, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball dropped a conference game against Penn State Altoona this Wednesday, December 6th.
The Mounties were off to a rocky start from the jump as the Lions would hit five threes in the opening six minutes of action, throwing the visitors into a seventeen point hole going in to the second quarter. Mount Aloysius saw their starters struggle on offense, with freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) the only of the five to hit double digits, posting a 20-point 16-rebound line while also contributing 4 blocks. Despite Kosmack's strong stat line, it was freshman guard
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) coming off the bench who would lead the Mountie offensive effort, dropping a season high 24 points on 56% shooting while going 5/8 from deep. Isaac's offense was split evenly between the four quarters, with the Mountie defense and Lion shooting dictating the flow of each ten minute increment.
The visitors had their strongest showing in the second, scoring 24 off solid post looks and rebounding while holding their opponents to just 15. While their offense cooled coming out of halftime, the Mountie defense stayed strong through the third, holding the hosts to 13 points for the quarter. Although the defense relented in the fourth, Mount Aloysius's offense showed more signs of life, unfortunately too late to change the outcome as the game ended in a 62-73 conference loss for the visitors. Mount Aloysius would actually outscore the Lions in the final three quarters of the game, 55-49, but the difficult first quarter plagued by adjusting to the host's crowd and environment proved insurmountable.
The Mounties took care of the ball with more success than previous games, recording half as many turnovers as they had against Pitt-Bradford. However, the Mounties counted to struggle against the whistle, committing almost twice as many fouls as the Lions. Mount Aloysius falls to 1-2 in AMCC play, good for a share of fifth in conference standings.
Mount Aloyisus women's basketball travels to Erie this Saturday, December 9th to take on Penn State Behrend in another conference match up. Penn State Behrend enters the contest 3-6 on the season, coming off a 64-72 loss to La Roche.
