Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Bearcats Beat Mounties in Straight Sets

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Tuesday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team hosted Saint Vincent in an AMCC matchup. The Bearcats dispatched the Mounties in three straight sets.

Leaders
- Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) and Logan Place (Lakeview, N.Y. / Frontier) led the Mounties with nine kills each.
- Setter Connor O'Mealia (North Chili, N.Y. / Churchville Chili) had the lone ace for the Mounties, to go along with 18 assists and seven digs.

How It Happened
- To start the game, both teams traded the lead back and forth several times through the first 18 points, seeing the game tied at nine. Saint Vincent grabbed a small advantage following that tie and would hold the lead through the rest of the set. Mount Aloysius cut the Bearcat lead to 18-17 on a kill by Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y. / East Aurora). However, the teams alternated the final ten points of the set and the Mounties fell, 25-22.
- In the second set, the teams again started out very tight, with Mount Aloysius holding a small 8-7 advantage early. Saint Vincent scored five of the next six points, grabbing a 12-9 lead that they would not relinquish. Mount Aloysius fought their way back, making the score 19-18, but gave up six of the final eight points, by making five errors and falling 25-20.
- While the third set started close, with Saint Vincent leading 6-5, the Bearcats scored 14 of the next 15 points and led 20-6. The lead was much too big for the Mounties to overcome, dropping the third set, 25-11 and the match.

Into the Box Score
- Saint Vincent out-hit the Mounties for the game, with a .256 hitting percentage. The Mounties only hit .118. Mount Aloysius' best set was the first, where they hit .241 and Saint Vincent hit .156.
- The Bearcats also led the service game, tallying five aces. Mount Aloysius only had one ace on the day.

Up Next
- The Mounties get back on the road, this weekend, when they travel to Hilbert for a tri-match with the Hawks and Russell Sage.
- Saturday's 12 p.m. match against Hilbert will count towards AMCC standings, while the 2 p.m. match with the Gators will be a non-conference matchup.
- Mount Aloysius will play five straight matchups away from the ACWC, before returning on March 18 to host Hiram.
