How It Happened
Game One vs. Hilbert
- Mount Aloysius got off to a very slow start in their first action of the day. They fell behind in the first set, 7-3 and it only got worse. The Hawks outscored the Mounties 18-7 over the rest of the set, winning 25-10.
- The second set saw a much different Mountie team. Despite falling behind 7-4, the Mounties continued to fight, keeping the set close as they split the next 20 points. With Hilbert up 17-15, the Mounties gave up six straight points to fall behind 23-15. Mount Aloysius would make it interesting, with help from a few Hawk miscues, and score six of the next seven points to make the score, 24-21. Hilbert would score the final point, however, and take down the Mounties, 25-21.
- In the third set, Mount Aloysius jumped out first, scoring the first five points and six of the first seven, grabbing a 6-1 lead. The Hawks fought back, but the Mounties held them off for awhile, as the first tie of the set came at 17 and the Hawks' first lead did not happen until 19-18. Tied at 20, the Hawks took control, scoring five of the final seven points to end the set, 25-22, and the game, 3-0.
Game Two vs. Sage
- To start the Mounties' second game of the day, they seemed in control the whole time. While the Gators tied the set a few times early, the Mounties never trailed. With a 10-9 lead, the Mounties started an 8-2 run, to lead 18-11. They kept the pressure on and sealed the set 25-17.
- Sage proved a tougher test in the second set, as the Mounties did not get their first lead until 12-11. Neither team saw more than a three point lead the rest of the set, as the Mounties had a 22-19 lead late. While the Gators pushed them to the brink, the Mounties got a kill fromÂ
Logan Place (Lakeview, N.Y. / Frontier) to win the set, 25-23.
- In the third set, the teams traded points consistently to begin the set, with the Mounties holding a small 12-11 lead. Follwing the point by Sage, Mount Aloysius scored the next six points and took control. They outscored the Gators 13-5 to win the third set and the game, 3-0.
