ALTOONA, Pa. - On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball team traveled to nearby Penn State Altoona for an AMCC Tri-Match against the Lions and Geneva. The Mounties fell in straight sets against both opponents.

Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio / Bishop Hartley)Â led the Mounties with 17 kills on the day, including nine in the loss to Penn State Altoona.
Andrew Wlodarczyk (East Aurora, N.Y. / East Aurora)Â had a game-high, 12 kills in the loss to Geneva.

Connor O'Mealia (North Chili, N.Y. /Â Churchville Chili), had 43 kills on the day, with 24 of them coming in the second game.
How It Happened
Game One vs. Penn State Altoona
- Mount Aloysius started out strong, grabbing an early 9-7 lead. Despite the lead, the Mounties scuffled, giving up eight of the next nine points, and falling behind 14-10. The struggle continued, as they only scored two consecutive points one more time in the first set, dropping it 25-17.
- In the second set, the teams played very even, splitting the first 32 points and neither team leading by more than two points. The teams traded three point swings, tying again at 19, then two more each to tie again at 21. Altoona scored two more to take a 23-21 lead. Mount Aloysius had a strong push, scoring the next three points and taking a 24-23 lead, thanks to a kill from
Landon Smith (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal)Â and a Franz ace. Unfortunately, the Mounties committed errors on two of the next three points and lost all three, dropping the set, 26-24.
- Penn State Altoona grabbed a 9-5 lead early in the third set, but the Mounties stormed back to tie the set at 10. The Lions used another strong push to take a 21-14 lead, gaining control of the match. While the Mounties outscored the Lions, 6-4, it would not be enough, as the home team won the set, 25-20.
Game Two vs. Geneva
- Geneva started the second match strong and had an advantage through most of the set, holding their biggest lead at 20-14. Mount Aloysius would go on a 6-1 run however, to make it 21-20, which included four Golden Tornado hitting errors. Similar to their first match, the Mounties again had a set in their site, leading 25-24 but could not finish as Geneva scored four of the next five points and won the set, 28-26.
- Mount Aloysius led 6-4 to open the second set, but that would be their only advantage. Geneva scored the next five points, taking a 9-6 lead and would not trail after that. The Golden Tornadoes led by as many as seven, multiple times, finishing off the set at 25-18.
- In the third set, Geneva never trailed, despite the early competitiveness from the Mounties, with the score 10-9. However, the Golden Tornadoes scored the next nine points to lead 19-9. The deficit would stay at ten as Geneva finished off the three set sweep, 25-15.
Into the Box Score
- In game one, Mount Aloysius struggled hitting, getting 22 kills and 22 errors, for a zero hitting percentage. In the third set, the Lions hit -.037, but were outdone by the Mounties who hit -.174.
- During the second game, the Mounties did hit better, with a .052 percentage, but were still behind Geneva, who hit .150.

- The Mounties will get back to non-conference play, on Thursday, when they travel to Wilson for a matchup with the Phoenix.
- Thursday will be the team's second matchup, with the Mounties winning the season opener, 3-0.
