MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team played the final game of their 2023 Spring Break trip, Friday morning, when they took on the Cairn Highlanders. The Mounties could not scrape across enough runs, falling 7-2.
Leaders
-Â
Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. /Â Chopticon) continued his torrid spring going 4-for-5 with a double. He also scored one of the two Mountie runs.
- SeniorÂ
Ryan Lynn (Butler, Pa. / Butler) drove in both runs for Mount Aloysius, with a run scoring single.

How It Happened
- Cairn jumped on the Mounties early after the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch. They used three, two-out singles to drive in two runs and take a 2-0 lead. Two of the first three Mounties had hits, giving them two on with one out, but they were unable to get them home.
- After a quick 1-2-3 inning from both teams in the second, Cairn added a two-run homer in the top of the third and four hits in total, scoring three runs and pushing their lead to 5-0. Mount Aloysius went 1-2-3 again in the bottom of the third.
- The Highlanders got a two-out RBI double in the fourth, scoring another run and making the score, 6-0. Quade doubled to lead off the Mountie half inning, but did not advance past second base.
- In the bottom of the sixth,Â
Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) and Quade led off with back-to-back singles andÂ
Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, Va. / Prince William County) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. After two strikeouts, Lynn singled up the middle to drive home Bushey and Quade, cutting the Highlander lead to 6-2, unable to make a bigger dent.
- Cairn added another run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly, to go ahead 7-2. While Mount Aloysius put multiple runners on base in the seventh and eighth innings, they could not capitalize and ultimately fell, 7-2.
Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius struggled with runners on base, leaving 12 total men on base and had four innings where they left multiple runners stranded.
- Bushey, Quade, andÂ
Troy Emert (Rockwood, Pa. / Rockwood)Â each had multi-hit games for the Mounties. They combined for eight of the 11 total Mountie hits.
