-
Quinn Fultz (McVeytown, Pa. / Mount Union)Â picked up the save in Game Two, retiring all four hitters he faced to finish off the victory.
How It Happened
Game One
- The beginning of the first game flew by, seeing both teams combine for just two hits over the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Lynn walked to give the Mounties two base runners. Peck and  delivered in the next two at-bats with back-to-back RBI singles, giving the Mounties a 2-0 lead.
- Saint Vincent added one run in the fifth inning, then after holding the Mounties scoreless, they added five more to take a 6-2 lead. The Bearcats tallied seven hits in the sixth inning, including a homerun and a double.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Peck hit a two-run homerun, splitting the Bearcat lead in half. Saint Vincent responded with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh, on a two-out, two RBI single. Despite the Mounties getting two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, they were held scoreless, falling 8-4.
Game Two
- Solid starting pitching allowed the first four innings of the second game to move quickly. Saint Vincent scored two runs in the top of the first inning, leading 2-0 through three innings and 3-2 after the fourth inning.
- The Bearcats opened the game up by putting up a five-spot in the top of the fifth inning, using just two hits, to take an 8-2 lead and chase the Mountie starter,
Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. /Â Chopticon).
- In the bottom half of the fifth, Suder tripled to leadoff the inning.
Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry)Â followed him with an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-3. Bushey was followed with two singles to load the bases, still with nobody out. Peck unloaded the bases quickly with a grand slam to left field and suddenly the Mounties were only down 8-7. The next three Mountie hitters all reached base to load the bases a second time with nobody out.
Gavin Constein (Columbia, Pa. /Â Hempfield)Â laid down a safety squeeze, tying the game at eight. He was followed by Suder who drove in two runs on a single, who later scored on an RBI single by Quade, as the Mounties took an 11-8 lead.
- Saint Vincent answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 11-10. The Mounties responded by adding four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, while only picking up two hits. Lynn drove in a run on a single, while Constein and Suder drove in runs on a hit-by-pitch and a walk, respectively. Bushey drove in the last run with a fielder's choice, giving the Mounties a 15-10 lead. Fultz tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to solidify the win.
Into the Box Scores
- Both games were saved by pitchers that tossed 1.1 innings. Fultz retired all four batters he faced to pick up the first save of his career, in Game Two. He also stranded two inherited runners on base when he entered the game.
- Five different Mounties had multi-hit games on the day. Peck went 2-for-3 in Game One, while Lynn, Quade, Suder, and
Braden Marcellus (Renfrew, Pa. / Butler)Â each picked up multiple hits in Game Two.
