Wilson Tops Mounties, 8-6

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Monday, the Mount Aloysius Lacrosse team host Wilson College in a non-conference matchup at Kelly Field. Despite having an early lead, the Mounties fell, 8-6.

Leaders
- Clara Larios-Soto (Laurel, Md. / Laurel) and Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, Md. / St. Maria Goretti) each scored two goals.
- Katie Figinski (Abingdon, Md. / Edgewood) and Courtney Vought (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset) both registered a team-high, four ground balls.
- Goalkeeper Zoe Swank (Romeoville, Ill. / Romeoville) had a game-high, 14 saves, in the loss.

How It Happened
- Mount Aloysius started off the game strong, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Shelby Smeal (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) scored the first goal of the game before Larios-Soto scored both of her goals. The Mounties had a 3-0 lead in the first 7:30 of the game. The Phoenix scored one goal with just under 90 seconds remaining in the quarter, cutting the Mountie lead to 3-1.
- Both teams held strong defensively in the second quarter, as Wilson scored the first goal of the period over 11 minutes in, making it a 3-2 game. Mason followed that with her first goal of the game, to put the Mountie lead back to two goals, 4-2. Those were the only goals of the second quarter.
- Wilson took control of the game in the third quarter, sandwiching one Mountie goal between four of their own markers. The swing gave the Phoenix a 6-5 lead heading into the final period.
- In the fourth quarter, the Phoenix scored the first goal of the period, giving them a 7-5 lead. Mason would score with just under nine minutes remaining, bringing the Mounties back within one goal. However, the Phoenix scored the final goal of the game on a free-position shot with just over five minutes remaining, giving them an 8-6 victory.

Into the Box Score
- Wilson had an advantage in shots for the game, as they out-shot the Mounties, 33-24, while landing 22 shots on goal. The Mounties had 16 shots on goal.
- While Mount Aloysius did commit more turnovers, 25-22, they also were more successful on clear attempts. The Mounties were 17-for-22 while the Phoenix were 13-for-24.
