Mounties Earn Sweep in High-Scoring Affair in Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team scored 22 runs to improve to 5-3 in AMCC play, by sweeping Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday. They earned an 8-5 victory in Game One and a 14-12 win in the second game.

Leaders
- Tyler Suder (Boswell, Pa. / North Star) went 3-for-10 on the day, but drove in a team-high, five RBIs.
- Pitcher Chris Hasse (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) made an appearance in both ends of the doubleheader, finishing off both games. In Game One he earned the save with 1.1 innings of work and he earned the victory in Game Two with 1.2 innings. He held the Bobcats scoreless in his three innings of work.

How It Happened
Game One
- Both teams combined for just four hits over the first three innings, keeping it scoreless. In the top of the fourth, Ryan Lynn (Butler, Pa. / Butler) and Troy Emert (Rockwood, Pa. / Rockwood) led off the inning with back-to-back doubles and gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead. Pitt-Greensburg answered with a run in their half, leading off the inning with two hits and scoring on a sacrifice fly.
- After a scoreless fifth inning, the Mounties opened it up in the sixth. Suder cleared the bases with a double after the first three batters reached base, giving the Mounties a 4-1 lead. Brandon Shane (Boyertown, Pa. / Boyertown) singled and gave them runners on first and third, right before Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) drove in a run on a single to center field, making it 5-1. Shane would score the sixth Mountie run when Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) reached on an error, giving the Mounties a five-run cushion.
- The Bobcats would use four hits and an error to score four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning, as the Mounties saw four pitchers throw to at least one batter in the frame. Hasse came on with two runners on and two outs, but was able to limit the Bobcats and leave the bases loaded. 6-5 Mounties.
- In the top of the seventh, Shane delivered a huge two-out, two-run homer to put the Mounties ahead, 8-5. The home run is Shane's first of his career. Hasse then shut down the Bobcats in the bottom of the seventh, not allowing a hit, and earned the four-out save.

Game Two
- Mount Aloysius took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, when Shane scored on an error, as J. Brown stole second base. The Bobcats responded in the second inning, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead.
- The Mounties quickly took the lead back. Suder tied the game with a lead off home run. With two runners on and one out, Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, Va. / Prince William County) drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single. Emert pushed a run across with a suicide squeeze and Lynn followed him with an RBI single to take a 5-2 lead.
- Pitt-Greensburg picked up a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third inning, leaving the score at 5-4. They would go on to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, seeing a two-out, RBI single make it 5-5.
- Bell answered the Bobcats by leading off the fifth inning with his first home run of the season, putting the Mounties back in the lead, 6-5. The Bobcats then traded the run back and tied the game again in the bottom half, sending it to the sixth inning, tied at six.
- Mount Aloysius scored three times in the sixth inning, getting RBIs from Bell, Emert, and Suder. Pitt-Greensburg followed that right up with three runs of their own and tied the game back up at nine.
- In the seventh, the Mounties again put three runs on the board, with Emert and Lynn driving in runs and seeing the Mounties with a 12-9 lead. They finally put up a zero in the bottom half of the seventh, but saw the Bobcats score three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to once again tie the game, this time at 12.
- The Mounties saw their first two hitters make outs to lead off the ninth, but then got singles from Lynn and Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry), to give them two runners on base. Freshman Braden Marcellus (Renfrew, Pa. / Butler) pinch-hit and delivered the biggest hit of his career, to date, as he doubled to left-center field and and drpve in both runners, giving the Mounties a 14-12 lead.
- Hasse, who came in to get the final two outs of the eighth inning, finished off the game, despite putting two runners on. He earned the win in the 14-12, see-saw style victory.
