Pioneers Tame Mounties, Sweep Doubleheader

ALFRED, N.Y. -- On Friday, the Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Alfred State to take on the Pioneers. The doubleheader was moved up to Friday due to impending weather on Saturday. The Mounties struggled and led for just a half-inning, dropping both contests.

Leaders
- Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) and Tyler Suder (Boswell, Pa. / North Star) each had three hits on the day, to lead the Mounties. Quade went 3-for-4 in Game One and Suder picked two hits in Game Two.
- Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) drove in a team-high, two RBIs, with a base hit in Game One.

How It Happened
Game One
- Mount Aloysius fell behind early after a scoreless top of the first inning. The Pioneers had three of the first four batters reach base on hits, two of which were home runs, giving them an early 3-0 lead.
- Alfred State added another insurance run, in the third inning, with a two-out RBI single to extend their lead to 4-0.
- Ryan Lynn (Butler, Pa. / Butler) got a run back for the Mounties, in the top of the fourth, as he doubled with two outs to drive in Quade, who doubled to lead off the inning. 4-1 Pioneers.
- While the Pioneers answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Mounties struck again in the top of the fifth. Gavin Constein (Columbia, Pa. / Hempfield) singled to lead off the inning and Cole Harkness (Hughesville, Md. / Saint Mary's Ryken) doubled to put two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Bushey then singled to drive them both in and cut the lead in half. He would later score when Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) hit a sacrifice fly, cutting the Pioneer lead to 5-4.
- The scoring continued as Alfred State picked up another run with one-out single in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 6-4. Suder would go on to deliver a two-out RBI single in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game again. Unfortunately, after holding the Pioneers scoreless in their half of the sixth, the Mounties were unable to score in the top of the seventh and fell 6-5.

Game Two
- Over the first two innings, the game remained scoreless. Mount Aloysius went 1-2-3 in both frames, but stranded two Pioneers on base in each, escaping jams. The Mounties got ahead in the  top of the third as Troy Emert (Rockwood, Pa. / Rockwood) doubled to lead off the inning and Suder doubled him home, with two outs, to give them a 1-0 lead.
- Alfred State responded in the bottom of the third, tallying four runs on four hits and stranding three runners on base. They would go on to score two-plus runs in their next two at-bats and open up a commanding 9-1 lead through five innings.
- Mount Aloysius failed to find a rhythm the whole game, picking up just five hits over the final six innings and were unable to score. The Pioneers scored 11 unanswered runs to top the Mounties 11-1.

Into the Box Scores
- Game One saw the Mounties strand more runners than the Pioneers (8-6), but only stranded five total runners in Game Two.
- Mount Aloysius used four pitchers in Game Two, with Joey DeRubeis (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) being the only Mountie arm to not allow a run. He tossed two scoreless innings and only allowed one hit.
