Mounties Nipped by Panthers in Opening AMCC Series

BRADFORD, Pa. -- On Monday, the Mount Aloysius Baseball team opened up conference play, as they went on the road to take on Pitt-Bradford. They were out-hit in both contests and fell to 0-2 in AMCC play, as a result.

Leaders
- Troy Emert (Rockwood, Pa. / Rockwood) picked up four total hits on the day and scored twice, going 4-for-6 overall, with a run batted in.
- Despite picking up the loss in Game One, Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) produced a 4-for-4 performance at the plate. He added one RBI as he reached base every time at the plate.
- Jared Houser (State College, Pa. / State College) added a 2-for-4 outing in Game Two, as he started behind the dish. He drove in two of the Mounties' six runs.

How It Happened
Game One
- Pitt-Bradford grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, picking up a run on a two-out double that set up the second runner to score on a wild pitch. The Panthers picked up two hits in the frame.
- The Panthers scored again in the bottom of the fourth, while keeping the Mounties scoreless. The frame saw UPB tally four hits and four runs. They used three straight one-out singles to score the first two runs and added two more on a walk and two consecutive hit by pitches, giving them a 6-0 lead. Matthew Watkins (Broad Top City, Pa. / Tussey Mountain) came in and limited the damage in the remaining fourth inning, getting a ground ball double play from the first batter her faced.
- Mount Aloysius had their first four batters reach base in the fifth inning, with Jackson Kozlovac (Portage, Pa. / Portage) and Tyler Suder (Boswell, Pa. / North Star) reaching on a hit by pitch and error, to open the frame, respectively. Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) drove in the Mounties' first run on a double and Quade followed him with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
- Unfortunately for the Mounties, Pitt-Bradford used two consecutive, two-out hits to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Mounties answered with two more runs in the top of the sixth, as Kozlovac and Suder each hit a sacrifice fly, making the score, 9-4.
- Despite a leadoff double in the top of the seventh inning, the Mounties were kept off the board and fell in Game One, 9-4.

Game Two
- Pitt-Bradford grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, on a leadoff homerun. The Mounties answered back in the top of the second as Houser singled with two outs and drove in two, giving the Mounties a 2-1 lead. The Panthers scored another run, on two hits, in the bottom of the second, knotting the game at two.
- The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Mounties again answered with two runs in the top of the sixth. Emert delivered the first on an RBI single and later scored on a throwing error by the UPB catcher. 4-3 Mounties.
- Each team added two runs in their next at-bats, as the Mounties grabbed a 6-5 lead on a sacrifice bunt by Quade and an RBI single by Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park), in the seventh inning.
- Pitt-Bradford took control of the game, in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs on a two-out single to take a 7-6 lead. They added three more runs in the eighth, taking a 10-6 lead and held the Mounties scoreless in the ninth to preserve the victory.

Into the Box Scores
- Despite the Panthers walking more batters in Game One, the Mounties were out-hit (10-6) and outscored.
- On the day, Pitt-Bradford pitchers struck out 12 Mountie hitters, led by their Game Two starter who struck out eight batters in 6.0 innings. Mountie pitchers struck out just six batters, including four by Game Two starter, Chris Hasse (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop).

Up Next

- Dickinson is 14-6-1 on the season, ahead of a Centennial Conference matchup against McDaniel, on Tuesday. Mount Aloysius will be the last game of the Red Devils' seven-game home stand, when they play at 3:30 p.m., on Wednesday.
- Mount Aloysius' next conference doubleheader will be on Saturday, when they host Penn State Altoona, beginning at 1 p.m.
