Mounties Slug Five Home Runs En Route to Sweep of Hilbert

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team wrapped up their final AMCC series, on Saturday night, when they hosted Hilbert in Johnstown's Sargent's Stadium at The Point. Mount Aloysius hammered five home runs, while locking up the number-three seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament.

Leaders
Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, Va. / Prince William County) had four hits, with three of them going for extra-bases, including a home run. He was 4-for-8 on the day.
- Freshmen Gavin Constein (Columbia, Pa. / Hempfield) and Cole Harkness (Hughesville, Md. / Saint Mary's Ryken) each hit their first career homers, on Saturday. Constein's was a solo shot in the second inning of Game One, while Harkness launched a three-run bomb in the second inning of Game Two.
Jeremy Eck (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) produced the finest start of his career, in Game Two, tossing seven-plus innings, allowing just three hits and three earned runs, while striking out five.

How It Happened
Game One
- Mount Aloysius jumped all over the visitors in the first inning. Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) tossed a 1-2-3 frame in the top half, before all nine Mountie batters reached the plate in the bottom half. They tallied five hits and scored five times, scoring all five runs with two outs. Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) delivered the first RBI on a single up the middle. Zack Peck (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) followed Brown with a two-RBI double, before Ryan Lynn (Butler, Pa. / Butler) capped off the scoring with a two-run shot to left field, giving the Mounties the 5-0 advantage.
- Bell and Constein tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second, each with solo shots, pushing the Mounties' lead to 7-0.
- In the third inning, Hilbert responded with two runs of their own, on just one hit. Constein answered with an RBI single in the bottom half, keeping the Mounties ahead, 8-2. Bell gave them another insurance run, in the fifth, when he doubled and drove in Tyler Suder (Boswell, Pa. / North Star), putting them up, 9-2.
- Hilbert continued to fight, however, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh. The Mounties added an extra run in the bottom of the sixth, on a Suder RBI double, but Quade held on to grab the complete game victory, 10-6.

Game Two
- To open the second game, Hilbert's first two batters scored, after a single and a home run gave them a 2-0 lead out of the gate.
- Mount Aloysius answered loudly in the bottom of the second. First, Lynn drove home two runs to tie the game, on a single. Then, after Troy Emert (Rockwood, Pa. / Rockwood) was hit by a pitch, Harkness sent a ball over the wall in left center, putting the Mounties ahead, 5-2.
- Brown added a solo shot in the bottom of the third, pushing the Mountie lead to 6-2. Both teams saw a drought following the homer, with neither team scoring again until the seventh inning.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Mounties blew the game wide open, scoring five times on six hits. All five runs were driven in by a different player and three of the runs came with two outs. Heading into the eighth, they led, 11-2.
- Eck's night ended, in the top of the eighth, following a leadoff walk. The Mounties used two more pitchers to get out of the frame, but not before giving up five runs and three hits and an error, as Hilbert cut the lead to 11-7. Chris Hasse (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) entered the game, in the top of the ninth and tossed a 1-2-3 inning to close out the Hawks and earn the sweep.

Into the Box Scores
- Both teams played very clean, with each team committing one error across the 16 innings of baseball. The Hawks used the Mounties error to score a run and also used a Mountie passed ball in Game Two, to score.
- Mount Aloysius took advantage of better starting pitching, over the course of the evening. The Mounties got 14-plus innings out of their starters, with both earning wins, while the Hawks only got five innings total and had to cover more than half of each game with their bullpen.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius will wrap up their regular season, on Tuesday, when they travel to Chatham for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
- Following Saturday's sweep, the Mounties locked up the number-three seed in the AMCC, finishing with an 8-6 record. They will play the number-six seed, in a three-game series beginning this coming Saturday, in Cresson.
- The AMCC Tournament opponent for the Mounties will be decided on Monday, when Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg meet. If Pitt-Bradford sweeps Pitt-Greensburg, the Mounties will host Pitt-Greensburg in the First Round. If Pitt-Greensburg wins one or both games, then Mount Aloysius will host Penn State Altoona in the First Round series.
